is the DS worth $40 more than than DSi Lite?

I am planning on buying one for myself (I'm 20) but I dont know anything about the Nintendo DS.

Really, the reason I am buying it is to keep myself occupied at doctors appointments, infusion treatments, hospitalizations and plane trips.

I know that the DS has internet acces, takes pictures, records voices, etc but if all i really want it for is to play games, is the DSi Lite fine for that?

I just dont want to spend the $40 if i dont have to (that could buy me brain age and mario kart...lol) but if the DS is relaly worth it, i will pay for that. I want it to last.

WHat are the real differences between the two?

I think you have them confused. You can get a DS lite or a DSi. My youngest son has both. My oldest son has just the DS lite. The DSi has the internet access, and it is more money. They also now just came out with a newer version called DSi XL which is just like the DSi except bigger.

If it were me, I would get the DSi because you can go online with it. Hospitals and airports now have wifi. If you have another method of getting online like your cell phone, or a laptop, then this really wouldn't be important. My son also loves to take photos, and use the special effects, but that is more for younger kids.

If you don't need to go online then a DS lite would be fine for just game playing. Another bonus is you can still play game boy advance games in the DS lite. So you can buy them used for cheap. The DSi doesn't have a slot for the game boy games.

I believe the differences you mentioned. I have a lite. All I wanted was to play games and to entertain my kids in waiting rooms and in the car. They are 4 & 8. The 8 yr old has a friend with a regular DS and my son said he did not think the features were needed. Both the DS & the lite play the same games.

There is a new DS out, the DSi XL. It has a much larger screen. I have not seen one in person but the screen is 93% larger. I quickly read a review the other day which said it is not as easy to slip into a pocket or purse. I imagine the price is even more.

The DSi XL also comes with 3 cames loaded on it....I think it's 2 of the Brain Ages and one other...so that may factor into your purchasing decision.

yeah i noticed after i typed it up that i mixed up DS lite and DSi

the wifi is not important in the hospital because i have a computer with me during inpatient stays and treatments.

at the airport, there is really nothing that important that i would need it for.

I figure, as long as they both work the same with the games, i would rather pay less an dnot more for features i probably wont use (or at least wont miss if i dont have them)

Between my 2 kids, we own one of each. The youngest has the DSi and we all love playing with that thing. We can get on the internet and check the weather, directions, etc.

The camera is pretty decent and, sadly, you can waste a lot of time fiddling around with the "mischief" mode on the camera. You can record your voice and distort it making yourself sound like a chipmunk. That's just the software that's preloaded.

We've gotten some good deals on games at Toys R Us in the 19.99 section, but Target has clearance games every now an then. It seems like they hide them in a corner of the store, but you can get some for 9.99.

BTW, right now the DSi is only $155 at Target. I paid $169 at Christmas for it.
