I am almost done with my shopping (we go to WDW in early Dec so I have to get it done!) but I can not figure out how to satisfy DS3's request.

He wants a muddy puddle. Meaning he wants to play in the mud with a bucket and a shovel and his tonka truck. Problem is we live in PA so it will definately be too cold on Christmas to send him outside to play in mud! And even if I did want to allow it, what the heck would I buy to put under the tree??
I know Fisher Price makes a Making Mud Pies Set but again, he cant play with it in the house!

Oh, and he also asked for new pooping books. This means the big board books that I can wipe off after he sits on the potty and reads them.

Any suggestions???

What a great thinker he is! Do you have a little wading pool that you could mix up some mud in? I'm just imagining the mess, but the memories would be priceless!

I don't have any great book ideas, but I am laughing at your son and his creative thinking. Have a great Christmas!

Get him one of those plastic kiddie pools and two or three bags of soil. That would be perfect to play in the mud with! That's my kind of kid!:lmao:

When I first read this I thought it was a typo and he wanted "Popping books" - the ones where something pops up on the page. Your details gave me a whole new mental picture. Thanks for the giggle.

Not very green, but when my DS was little, I would leave the hose running while I washed the car and he would have a ball making little streams in the gravel and then playing with the mud, when the water hit the lawn. I just put him in his swimsuit. He still remembers that:goodvibes

OP, maybe you could buy or make a water/sand table with wheels on it. Then you could have it outside when the weather is nice or in a room with tile or vinyl when it is cold or rainy. You will have to find the right kind of dirt to make good mud. Some potting soil is too light and will float when you add water.

Do you have a basement or a garage where you can put down a tarp and a sandbox for him to use as his mudpuddle? I grew up in NW PA, and I agree that playing in the mud in the winter is a bad idea (even though my sister and I managed to figure it out at times--cracking the ice was the best part!)

I might try the soil thing...but not as a Christmas present. My 3yo loves to jump in puddles. And he has asked for just about every boy thing imaginable. What if you bought a discovery table that could be filled with water or beach sand. Sounds like he wants to discover through the sense of touch and there are toys and activities made that are conducive to that. Finding them is the challenge.

Maybe if you could find a science or learning store, that will give you some inspiration.

I thought this was so cute I had to go out and find this. I knew I'd seen these before!

Step 2 makes what you want. Go out to Amazon or Toysrus or any good toy website and query "Sand table." Just put down a couple of plastic table clothes, warm up the basement, buy some potting soil, set up your sand table with dirt and add water!

filled a little bit with playground sand and a watering can?

He can play with it on the kitchen floor over a Dollar Tree table cloth.

Sounds fun!

There is a book called Mud Puddle written by Robert Munsch. He is a childrens author so it would be appropriate for your son. He has a ton of books. He is a Canadian author and is almost a staple for any Canadian kid. Check out his other books as well.

Is this the only thing on his list?

If it isn't other then the sand and water table I would just forget this one. Maybe I would be the only one on here that would not go to the trouble of setting up a pool with water and sand. Sound terrible messy.

My kids know Santa can not bring everything they ask for. :confused3

If he is like most 3 year old there minds change all the time at this age and they move to something else. Hated when at the last minute they changed there #1 thing for Christmas at the last moment.

what about the moon sand stuff that goes in water... aqua sand! Yes playing in mud in the winter in PA can be rough.. although if this weather keeps up who knows... I see 60 on tuesday with rain for me... STRANGE!! I need to pull the shorts back out lol

Just wanted to say I love your Santa pic! I think I have a few similar to that when my kiddos were little! :rotfl:

When DD was about the same age, she wanted nothing but a pink whistle. She told everyone for a month about how she was asking Santa for a pink whistle. Can I tell you how hard it is to find a pink whistle when you are actually looking for one? I would just have to try one of these creative ideas. :santa:

I've always told my kiddo that, too, but she makes her lists so short that it is hard NOT to get her everything she wants!

Perfect. Get a blue tarp, too and put it under the muddy puddle in the middle of the kitchen floor. Be sure to take lots of pictures, this will be a priceless memory.:yay:
