On my Kindle. He has it for a book that he had to read for school and it was the only way we could find the book.

So I go into my email to find out he ordered a book from Amazon, for my Kindle. I was upset, but it was free, so I was a little more relieved...

Then I clicked through and he ordered the Bible for my Kindle.

Now how to I get mad at him?

You can actually call up customer service and return Kindle eBooks that were accidentally or wrongly ordered. They give you a certain amount of time. Also they will refund if there is a problem with formatting, or a book really is not what you thought it would be.

However, while you may get a refund from Amazon, you may loose "points" elsewhere for returning this book. :littleangel: :rolleyes1

It was free, so returning it is not a problem, I think we will keep it. I wonder if he was trying to hint at my "mood" lately. I have been having a tough time, a few too many outbursts, just not feeling well in general. Maybe it was his way of saying I needed to "calm" down.

1. Kid wants to read.
2. Kid wants to read the Bible.

IMO, it sounds like a good situation to me. I'd say, next time just let me know.

He does need to tell me you are right, but somehow the "How dare you want to read the Bible without telling me", just seems so wrong on so many different levels.

Maybe it is different because my DD13 has her own kindle (but hers an mine are on the same account) but it has never occurred to me to care if she orders free books. TO me that doesn't require permission any more than checking out a library book would.
If something has a cost and she has cash to cover it she orders it and just tells me about it and gives me the cash the next time she sees me. If she wants ME to pay for something, then she does have to ask first. Which is basically how it would function with a bookstore (except if she buys with her own money at a bookstore she does not even have to mention--she usually does because she talks a mile minute about everything:lmao:--but she doesn't have to).

You are right also, now cost, no problem. I am glad he likes it, I am thinking it will be a while until I see it again. He has to take it to school since the book he has to read for class is on it. He really likes it. I think I read the prices are coming down, maybe I should check on one for a Christmas gift. He didn't ask for it, but maybe he would be surprised for once. Plus he is a closet reader. Doesn't want the world (classmates) to know he reads so much and this may work afterall.

Mine is older, from last year. The 2nd. generation if I am correct. It's plain, no special anything. Do I need to know anything if I do decide to purchase one for him?

Okay, I am off for tonight. Stupid fever just spiked again and my ear feels like it is going to explode.

Any advise on the newer Kindles or best for the prices would be appreciated. He doesn't need anything fancy, I would just like to get a gift he didn't know about and would be able to appreciate. Thanks everyone, have a great night.

No advice on the newer kindles here--we both have the 2nd generation ones from last year. It is the best Christmas gift we ever gave my daughter.

I have the latest gen Kindle, just with wifi (no 3g) and I love it. My fiance (who's the one who actually stays up to date on these things) mentioned that on "Cyber Monday," Amazon was having a HUGE sales on their 2nd gen Kindle. If you don't need the latest gen and want to get it cheap, check that out!

Also, more free Kindle books! http://inkmesh.com/free-ebooks/?site=kindle (It's where I located all the ones I read!)

EDIT: I can't find the 2nd Gen. Sorry! They have used ones that are more expensive than the new ones. I don't understand that...

The 2nd Generation Cyber monday sale sold out in about 60 seconds.

From your first post, I couldn't tell whether you were being tongue in cheek or serious. Are you upset that he downloaded a book, ANY book without asking you? It shouldn't matter that it was the bible. It's the principle of what happened.

You need to decide what you want and set some rules for him on the different levels. Are you okay if he downloads free eBooks? Do you still want him to ask & okay the books with you first?

He won't know what's expected of him or that he's breaking the rules if you don't discuss them.

There are "knock off" E readers around too. I saw that Kohl's has one on sale this weekend for $120. I "think" it is compatible with BN, not sure about Amazon. It would be worth looking into at least.

For the $19 difference I would get the real deal--especially since OP already has one and they could link to one account and share books.

I totally agree - get him a Kindle. I wouldn't recommend anyone get anything other than a Kindle or Nook at this point - I think they are the industry leaders (well, obviously I think the Kindle is the industry leader but I can see that the library function is attractive for Nook owners). I wouldn't bother with any of the others - too few features for essentially the same price.

I think OP was being tongue in cheek with her post, saying that she almost got upset that he ordered something without her permission, but then realized it was a bible, so she couldn't really be upset with him. And then the fact that it was free made it even more OK. But she's also saying that her DS needs to know that if he ever does want to order a book that actually costs money, he'll need to check with her first. :goodvibes

OP, I actually really like my clunky, white Kindle2. But if those are hard to find, I'd go with the Kindle3 with only Wi-fi. It's cheaper, and as long as it's equipped with Wi-fi, you don't really need the 3G Whispernet.

Yes at first I would have been upset, price or no price some books would not be for him if to be reading. If it had been a cost, I would have been upset that he didn't check if the account was okay to order,

but the tongue in cheek comes from the fact that it was free, that he is a 15yo boy, and he ordered the Bible. I can't be mad at him no matter how hard I try. Even with having a cold and feeling like crud, I still can't get mad at him today... The Bible. I guess I never thought that he would order it. He goes to a Jesuit School and has to carry his Bible to class everyday. At 15 that isn't considered the cool thing to do. Sorry if my "witty writing" didn't come through.. It wasn't from a lack of trying.

Is there a charge or an added price now for the 3g Whispernet or Wifi. I know my Kindle goes online somehow and I don't pay for that service and it is slow. But I don't really use it.

I am thinking I have a Kindle2 also. Mine is white and it is not extremely thin. Thanks for all the advice.

I would give my son a great big hug if he ordered the FREE version of the Bible.

I agree. I am cheap and am waiting for the prices to drop some more. Electronics are really disposable items to me because they become obsolete so quickly. But, I won't be buying a cheap generic until they've been around and tested for a long time.

Kindle, Nook & Sony are at the forefront of inventing this technology, especially the screens, which is the most vital part of being able to read off of them. I don't think a cheap generic would have anything comparable out now, for their prices. Their screens are probably a generation behind in quality.

For $19 more, get the real deal. Plus, if/when these industry leaders have updates & firmware software upgrades, they probably have ensured that their readers will be capable of them. It may save from buying a new eReader for a while, down the road. I wouldn't think the cheap generics will have that capability.
