Ds14 keeps clogging bathroom...

He is using way way to much TP.
How many squares should I suggest he uses.
His dad has been no help to the situation..
Actually made it worse making jokes..
He is the only one that uses that bathroom and goes through the Costco 8pk faster than we do and there is two of us.

Get a bidet if he’s worried about clean up.

Flushable wipes do cause blockages and damage. If he’s that concerned that he’s using that much toilet paper, he will also likely use way too many wipes.

OP - do yourself a favor and DO NOT get any type of flushable wipes! If they say flushable, ignore that!

Stay away from flushable wipes.
Get some Scott toilet paper, it's awful but it's thin and good for septic because it breaks up faster than other kinds of soft thick paper so it will be better for pipes.
Otherwise just tell him to stop using so much and show him how to unclog it so he can do it.

If it’s charmin(edit. I don’t know about Costco). 3-4 squares? When my son was learning, I told him to wipe until its clean. If he has to do that process more than 3 times, do a “curtesy flush”.

Agree with pp that at his age, he should take responsibility for clean up if it clogs.

Flushable doesn't mean they won't clog the pipes. It just means they'll make it through the toilet. They don't break down like toilet paper will and if there's any imperfection in the pipes they'll hang up and eventually cause a clog. The same goes for all other "flushable" items..... Don't do it...

Get plastic bags / liners and put a tiny trash can into the bathroom. Tell him to dump his TP in that and then remove the liner after a certain period of time. But this does end up causing more waste.

True but you can just tell him that it happens to everyone and you just need to adjust how much toilet paper you use. And learning how to use a plunger is a good skill to know
You could also try the dish soap trick, squirt it in the toilet, let it sit for 15 minutes and flush. I don't know if it will work for paper clogs, but it does for the other kind

I dont know how many squares but if he needs to wipe more he should flush in between so not too much is in the bowl at a time.

Issue him one roll of TP that's good for the entire month (and hide the rest). When he runs out in a week or so tell him to pick leaves off the tree. He's 14 years old; four years from being a legal adult! Time to start adult training: Be responsible, budget your resources, and clean up your mess.

Have him minimize TP and flush multiple times.
Also teach him how to plunge it and have him do it so he gets how annoying it is.
Mine is only 11 and I cringe when he's in there and I hear the roll turning as he pulls off the TP. And turning. And turning. Like he's crafting a paper mache mummy.

Yes, I made my son plunge and last time I held the phone as he followed youtube directions on how to use auger ( sorry if I spelled that wrong) he complained the entire time.
Between making him clean the toliet/ floor everyday and this it's really too much bathroom talk with a teen boy.

I finally understand why Disney has to use such thin TP and they have those powerful flush with the automatic sensors!
The Plumber will be happy to return visits until you find an honest one to tell you to simply change the toilet paper.
Ask your son to realize life is full of crap and the kind that comes from inside your own body is not as scary as day to day crap in the news!
Also check under the toilet lid to educate those parts and how to stop that water flow in an emergency!
And check his diet to drink plenty of liquids . Don’t want to clog up the human process …
