We're heading to Disney in just a couple of weeks, my Aspie DS11's favorite place in the world. However, he has issues with water unless he is wearing swimwear. Think 3-D shows spray, those misting fans, or, heaven forbid, rain. The rest of us welcome the cool relief, but it sets off near meltdowns. We're thinking of having him dress in swim trunks and rash guard shirts as his standard park wear. If he's dressed this way, there won't be any water problems which will make a calmer trip. I just want to check that this is okay. I know it isn't at some places, but it seems like a great solution so I thought I'd check before I begin packing.

If anyone has suggestions on helping him overcome this, I'll welcome those too.

Sounds like a good plan to me - the only places it wouldn't be OK are the fancier restaurants with dress codes. Actually, only Victoria and Albert's has that dress code, I think?

Swim trunks and rash guard t-shirt will be covering a lot more skin than some of the outfits we've seen the teenage girls in!

That sounds great and it sounds like a easy solution to preventing a bad day for him and you. I agree with other posters that he will most likely be much better dressed and have more clothes on than others I have seen at the parks. I don't know what size he is, but I believe they have some of the Disney swim trunks and rash guards on sale at the DisneyStore online. I buy the sets for my boys when they go on sale and they really love 'em. Have a great time!

Most of those items look very much like regular shorts and shirts, so would not stand out. The only problem I could see would be if he was refusing to wear a shirt and would only wear swim trunks.
He’ll be fine in what you are planning.

Great plan, I might consider it for my DS Apsergers next trip

Ain't that the truth!!

Glad to hear the go ahead (V&A is not on our list). As Sue said, they look much like regular clothes, but you never know. HersheyPark is our local amusement park and swimwear is prohibited, except in certain parts of the park (posted signs). Mostly that teenage girl issue, but it still applies across the board.

This will be great - can't wait to see ITTBAB and Captain EO!!

My son wears a swim suit and rash guard all day at WDW, and at summer camp at home too. I buy swim suits that are solid colors so they look more like shorts and I swear noone notices.

Having said that, I was pretty amazed how dry I stayed at WDW. Things like splash mountain involved way less water than the flume ride at our local amusement park.
