DS Surgery Update....(beware :)

Well, we were there at 6:30 as directed and surgery was underway at 8:08am. They said 30-45 minutes...took almost 2 hours. I was scared to death.

They couldn;t get the whole stone, so they shot it with a laser breaking it into 1 big piece and 1 smaller piece. They got the big piece out with the basket and he will pass the small one.

They left a stent in, but with a string which comes out the "privates" Friday, he is suppose to pull the string to get the stent out (OUCH!!!) Well, they forgot to mention it to him and he went to the bathroom (they make you go there before you can be sent home) and he yelles "Pap-Paw, there is a string coming out of my privates!!" Oh, boy. I think everyone around heard.

Anyway....glad that the big part of the stone is out....hate that the stent is still in, though.

How old is your son? I swear, hospitals are making patients do more and more of their own care or they send out home health aides to do things that should be their responsibility. I remember my father coming home a couple years ago with a drainage tube still there! A nurse came out every couple days to check things!

I hope your son is ok on Friday!!

Glad to hear your DS is doing well. Your poor son having to go through that. I hope things go better at the end of the week in removing the stent.

Oh Carol, your poor son! This whole thing has to have been a very painful experience and he's only 12. I did LOL over the string though, I wonder how many people heard him yell. I'm glad it's almost over for him now. Hopefully he won't ever have a repeat performance.

I'm glad to know he's out of pain from the kidney stones. I sure he'll be feeling better each and every day.

I called Mom and Dad to see how he is feeling and he is complaining just about everything! Said that we should find doctors who don;t cause pain when he tinkles, find doctors who know more about kidney stones.........

It should be an intersting next couple of days.
