DS school art project he brought home

My 9 YO DS brought home something he made at school. It was 4 pieces of paper cut out to the shape of a train. It was called "Brett's Polar Express".
On each train piece he had to answer various questions. Well, on the last train piece the question was "If you could take the Polar Express anywhere you want, where would it me?"

Well, here is what he wrote (verbatim):

"If I could take the Polar Express anywhere, I would go to Orlando, Florida and visit Walt Disney World for ten days. I would take my family. I would go there around summer break, because it is so fun. I think it's the best vacation ever, because it has big and fun rides. Then I would take the Polar Express back home."

I think that was a great answer. He doesn't talk about WDW at all so I was surprised (and happy) that he wrote that!

My DS, 4, comes home from preschool all the time with his drawings he did in Art Center. They usually are of Mickey Mouse heads with "Mickey Mouse" written on it. It's funny how we rub off on our kids. His teacher finds it amusing that most of the kids aren't writing, but he can spell "Mickey Mouse"!

My DS8 brought home the ornamant he made in art yesterday. It was a ceramic star and in the middle he made a raised mickey head. It was really cool. I have successfully rubbed off my disney craze on my children

Seriously, you would be surprised with how many kids include some form of Disney in their projects.

I can't figure out if they do it because they like it, or is it because they know I am a big Disney freak.

Too cute! What a shame you don't live closer to VA...

We actually do take the train (the Amtrak Auto-train) down and back each time we are visiting WDW. It runs a direct route over-night between Lorton, VA & Sanford, FL. May not be the "Polar Express", but it is a fun way to travel to Disney.

That does sound fun! My 6 yo DS is obsessed with trains. DH and I talked about taking them somewhere on the Amtrak just for the experience. The Cincinnati stop is about 45 ninutes from us so catching the train wouldn't be a problem. We just never looked into it.

Sorry, OT...

We did that for DS when he was little. We lived near Philadelphia until he was almost three, then we moved north of Chicago. We's take the local commuter trains to towns not too far away from us just for the fun of it. We'd get out, walk around the town a bit, then head back home. He loved it!

Also, this time of year, you should be able to find elaborate train displays to visit. Firehouses seem to be home to several of them around the holidays. This year we have our first under-the-tree display. My DS and DH built it together!
