A few weeks ago my 7 year old son finally got around to telling me what he wants for Christmas (after months of saying "I don't know" or "You pick") -- a DS lite. To be honest, I hadn't even considered getting him one, but since it was the only thing he asked for I decided to at least look into it -- and discovered they were all gone. I told him that and he was disappointed, but understood. Anyway, since then I've been checking for them every so often and just found one on Amazon, and impulsively ordered it. He's going to be thrilled.

Anyway, now that I ordered it it has occurred to me that I should probably get him some games to go with.

So, any suggestions? I'd rather it not be too violent. His favorite TV shows are Ben 10, Danny Phantom, Avatar and SpongeBob -- are the games for any of those good? He already has a Spongebob Leapster game, and a Spongebob computer game, so maybe not Spongebob? He might like a racing game? Any other thoughts?

There is a Avatar game! This is something that my DS7 wants, and we will probably get it for him. I also like Animal Crossings and Mario Kart. You may also look at the Pokemon games, as they are still a hit with kids.

My son has the Wario World (I think that's what it's called) and it would be fun and appropriate for a seven year old.

My DS is 6.5 and he also asked for a DS Lite.
I got the last one 2 weeks ago.
As for games, Mario Kart is good, we have it on GameBoy, I did notice at the store that there is a Ford Racing game for the DS that my son has on Playstation and that is also good.
I have been told that anything to so with Mario is also good.
Also too if your son has any recent favourite movies there are games for those as well, such as Madagascar, Happy Feet, Barnyard, etc.

DS just got one for his 7th bday. He's been playing Brain Game and Super Mario Bros. Also have it on very good authority that he can look forward to the Lego Star Wars game, Pokemon, and Space Invaders (tho I think that is more for DH!)

I was told by an experienced 12 year old that no one likes playing racing games on the hand-helds becasuse they are too hard to manuver. Those are best used on the TV consoles. Just to let you know from a voice of experience!! :goodvibes

His 8 yo.bro. favs: Animal Crossing, Pokemon, Donkey Kong.

8 yo. bro. agrees about the racing BTW ;)

Congratulations on finding a DS Lite! They are very hard to find these days :).

The Avatar game is 10 years old and up. I bought my 7-year old DD Happy Feet (it came with the package), Little Mermaid and Nintendogs. I'll probably get her a Mario game eventually.

Harvest Moon is THE game being played by both ds12 & dd7 these days...

The Mario games are also popular. I got dd the Avatar game for Christmas so I am not sure what it is like. I got myself the new Ariel one but I have to wait until Christmas - that is also when dd will get her PINK ds lite and I will get MY white one back.. :)

My 6 almost 7 year old ds loves anything Mario. We also have a scooby doo game that has met mixed reviews, my 8 yo nephew loves it but Jon dislikes it a bit. I think it is a little harder than the Mario games.

My girls (8 and 6) love Animal Crossing. It is a game where you do things to earn money, then get a mortgage and pay it off. You can buy things for your house. You get neighbors and can send mail. The game they are asking for this year is Nintendogs.
