Well, Dh and I braved black Friday but decided to skip last years frenzy at Walmart. In trying to decide what to get one of our kids for Christmas, we
opted for a DS Lite at EB Games, but now I'm thinking we may have rushed into it. We bought the used game for $59.00 - was that a good deal or not?
We also bought a couple games Nintendo Dogz for $19.99 and Animal Planet Vet for $29.00 - were they overpriced? :confused3

Also, when they brought out the DS Lite for the first time, it had a mark on the screen that would not come off. Then they brought out another one that had tons of dots on it. She had given me a cloth and said if I breathed on the screen like on eyeglasses and wiped them off, they should come off - which they did. I would think if they are selling a used game, they would clean the screen first!

So now I am wondering what to do. Do they ever have the DS Lite's for less than $100? New ones I mean? :sad2:

The used ones at our store were horrific..........I can't believe that they would even take them as a trade in. I was looking at amazon and they have replacement covers (currently out of stock) however, with that, it would look brand new again.

Forgot to add........amazon has been doing them for $99 last week (wish I would of know before I paid full price). Keep watching, maybe you will get lucky!

We got a used DS Lite from Gamestop over the summer for something like $99 (didn't want to wait for the sales, and it was cheaper than list on a new one), so I'd consider $59 a good deal. It was in great shape, though - a couple small scratches on the case, but nothing on the screens.

as long as the system turns on, and the buttons work, then they'll take it as a trade. It has to be badly damaged screens for them to reject it as a trade in.

If you don't see one you think is in good shape, keep going back till one gets traded in. Sometimes you can get systems that are in perfect condition because people took care of them like they should've. I can honestly say some of our older gameboys have scratches and stuff on the outside, even when we used covers.
You might also want to check back after the holidays, if you don't find a decent deal, as kids get the new system, they'll trade in the old one for new games or something.

OP--Did you purchase the 1 year replacement plan? I always purchase the replacement plans on stuff like that whether it is new or used. Those things get dropped a million times. The good thing about Game Stop replacements plans are, they are pretty cheap, it is for a one time replacement, but you can purchase a new plan for your new one if you have to get it replaced.

OT--Does anyone know when you trade something in at Game Stop will they give you cash? or just store credit.

We bought a used one for my DS last holiday season and it was a mistake. The hinges on the DS Lite's have been the weakest point and my sons are already starting to break.

Not all GameStops allow for cash trade. It depends on state/county/city laws. But I think they take 15-20% off if you get the cash. So if you know you're going to buy video games in the future, take the store credit. If you really want cash, go with craig's list.

The product replacement warrenty, is only like 20$ for console system, and like 10$ for the handhelds. It depends on the price. It only cover's the particular system you own (based off the seriel numbers). But you can always buy another warrenty if you ever have to get a new system. And a few bucks is worth the peice of mind for it. But regular guarantee is 30 day refund/90 day replacement with reciept.

We have a DS Lite we got new and one hinge is broken, I don't think my girls have been too hard on it. We too bought one for $59 on BF but it looks great, better then the one we have. I did not buy the warranty because it did not cover the hinges which in our experience is the only thing that has gone bad. I am happy with our $59 deal, but then again it does look like brand new.

We were in the same boat, looking for a DS for my ds6. So here's what we did, I told my teenage daughter to check with all her friends who were not playing theirs anymore, and we struck gold. One girl had hardly even played her, still had the box directions and everything. Got it and a game for 60 bucks!!!!

I'd buy a new DS and used games. Used games are WAY less than new and play just a well. It should even out that way.
