Dr. said he'd probably be fine by the vacation. But the poor guy is so lethargic & hasn't eaten since Tuesday!! Please send him some pixie dust!!!

Ok, I've never seen someone get over Mono this quick!!! Within 3 days, h was back to normal!!! Not tired, eating like a 15 year old boy again. If I didn't have a copy of the blood test results, I'd think he was misdiagnosed!! Looks like he'll be FINE for WDW. Thanks for all the pixie dust

Love & kisses

I've been there before, what a TERRIBLE sickness. Not hungry, just tired...ALL THE TIME! :wizard: I hope your son feels better! Good thing he's home where you can take care of him and not at college though, I've seen many of my friends be sick with that without the help of a caring mother as you sound!

pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: Tons of pixie dust to you and your son! Hope he feels better!

Pixie dust your way :wizard:

I had mono when I was a junior in college, and I think it took about a year for me to feel like I had my usual amount of energy. We went on a family trip to Bermuda that summer, about two months after I was diagnosed, and I took a long nap every day and spent most of the vacation just lazing about. It was actually the perfect recuperating vacation. I'm not sure I would have been able to handle Disney, but I had a pretty bad case.

Hopefully he will be up and about when it's time to head off. Sending lots of pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: your way.

I thought I had mono for years, but after a few test I found out I was just really lazy.

& I told her he was just laying on the couch. She said, "How's that different?" :rotfl2: I said, "Just like you!!!

DH said not to worry if DS gets too tired at the parks, he'd take him back for a nap. I think DH is looking for an excuse to do a little (or a lot) napping himself!!! ;)

Aw, that's such a horrible thing.
Make sure he gets tons of rest... and if the swelling is too much to bare, get him some acidophilus
And seriously, as much rest as he can handle.

Goodluck!

Sorry to hear it I had MONO when I was 20 yrs old and it was awful at first. Tell him to take care of himself and I think he will be fine for the trip. I got married six weeks after I was diagnosed with it, and I was fine for my wedding... :sunny:

all my pixie dust, love, and hugs! plz post how he's doing later on!

Sending lots of pixie dust your way!!! :wizard: I bet this is the first time you are happy your trip is 6 weeks away. He should have enough time to recover.

We had to rent a wheel chair when we were in EC mainly but she did pretty well in the other parks. She got sick in mid Oct. and she was hospitalized and missed 6 weeks of school...and our doctor and the school said to keep the trip on....it would help with her spirits. We were there Thanksgiving week She was really sick with mono too...but she was improving a lot by the time we went. She didn't return to school til mid Dec. She had an at home tutor and the whole nine yards. She had a severe case though.

I had mono when I was a junior in college too! It stunk. I was diagnosed the day before my Junior Ring Weekend, and was exhausted the entire weekend, I managed to finish out the semester (I was diag. in November), and slept the entire winter break. It took a year for me to completely get back to normal, and still to this day I have relapses...that stupid Epstein Barr(sp) virus!

SOOO Pooch.....He're's soem Pixie Dust for your DS... pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

Rest is the key.... at 41 (on my birthday) I found out that I had mono. After listening to everyone else, I had a mild case, but it still was bad. For 5 days, slept all the time, VERY lathrgic. Took alot to even breath. Took me about two months before I only had to nap about once a day. Plenty of rest......enjoy!!!

If he is still not up to snuff when you go on vacation, just let him set the walking pace for the family, stopping at park benches as he chooses.

Mono while in school? Try a reduced course load. Notify the teachers of some subjects that DS or DD is dropping them and planning on making them up the next year. No further preparation of lessons or homework or projects occurs for those courses. Then DD or DS can concentrate on the other subjects while trying to catch up.

Ugh, mono. Make sure he rests every time he gets tired. You definitely don't want it to go chronic (Epstein-Barr). I was sick for nearly a year, then had relapses every couple of months, lasting up to 12 weeks at a time, for more than 8 years.

The one thing that helped me (and I tried EVERYTHING) was Red Marine Algae. I know it sounds awful but I'm here to tell you, it stopped the Epstein-Barr in its tracks and after many months using it I have been symptom-free for over 3 years now. Try it. Your health food store can get it for you if they don't have it in stock.

Good luck! It's a horrible dis-ease.

uggg, hope he gets better quickly. I had it when I was 18 and I had it for close to 6 months before I felt well enough to get up and around and go back to work for a full day! I THOUGHT I was better after 3 months but after a week of going back to working 8 hours I was knocked on my butt again for a few months...what a terrible thing mono is! It was a good few weeks before I was even able to get up and o to the bathroom on my own, I was so weak I couldnt' get up without help.

My DD has mono followed by Chronic Fatigue syndrome, she got sick last November and is just now recovering, she lost a whole semester of high school. I am so relieved to see her start to become active again like a normal teenager.

I was found out I had mono 3 days after my fall finals my senior year of college. I had thought I was just falling asleep every 15 min while reading because the subjects were boring. Oh well. It takes longer than you think to recover. One day I felt fine so I got up to meet my sister at the airport and was sweating by the time I walked to the gate (back when you could do that sort of thing). So make him take it easy dont wait for him to say I am tired as he might not be able to make it back.
I think it took about 2 to 3 months before I was almost normal. But then I had no voice, would faint in the shower because it was too taxing and could not keep my head up when I was awake when I found out I had it.

Get him a lot of movies and :grouphug: I hope he feels better soon.
