DS is having his tonsills out tommorow. I am just too stressed out! I know that it is the best thing, but it still will be hard. If you wouldn't mind keeping him in your thoughts and prayers, I would appreciate it!

It has to be scary for both of you! just keep thinking about ice cream flavors!

My best wishes for your son and you too. I know I was a wreck each time my boys had surgery, even though I knew what to expect after the first time. My only words of advice, is that he may not want the ice cream at first. When my ds had his tonsils out, he wanted nothing to do with anything for the first couple of days, it is a wonder he did not dehydrate. I will think of all of you tomorrow, please let us know how it goes!

Hugs & good wishes to you & your DS. I'm sure everything will go great!

Make sure you buy him some yummy popcicles too!:hyper:

Your DS will be in my prayers along with the doctors and all who will be attending to him. I am sure that everything will go fine, but it is very difficult knowing that they are going into surgery.

I'm sure he'll enjoy the ice cream and make sure to keep us posted on how he is doing.

I will say a prayer for your DS right now. {{{HUGS}}} for both of you.

my dd had her tonsils and adenoids out march 12. at the time i was thinking i was the worst mother ever but when she came round in recovery and told me she loved me i felt better. also she was back to eating the next day. don't punnish yourself he will be fine and back to his usual self before you know it. take care

I'll keep your son in my prayers. Good luck to all of you.:sunny:

My daughter's pediatric eye surgeon always told me the surgery is much harder on the parents than it is on the kids - I think he's right! The kids are so resilient - they bounce right back after a day or two - but we parents.....well, I was always a basket case!

I'll keep your DS in my prayers!

Everything will be just fine...he'll be feeling great in a matter of days.

Good Luck!!!

He will be fine I had mine out when I was 7 a few minor coplications nothing serious but all the ice cream made everything all better.

DS was 8 when he had tonsils/adenoids out and did much better than me :smooth: (I almost passed out when he threw up blood in recovery). He never wanted much ice cream or popsicles though- and I had a freezer full! He carried a washcloth with him to spit in so he would not swallow-I made him give that up after 3-4 days. His voice changed, he stopped getting constant strep throat, ear and sinus infections. He became a well child, not a sickly one. Best thing we did for the boy. :D
Prayers that all goes as well for your DS.

My son had his tonsils out just 2.5 weeks ago and he was up and around in no time. You may want to hold off on buying any ice cream right away -- our son's dr. told us not to give him any dairy products for the first 3-4 days. He said that dairy products cause too much mucus and even people who aren't allergic to dairy can still have a minor reaction to it. We bought soy milk and soy yogurt. Oh, and according to my son, if you smash up Cocoa Puffs and add a little water to moisten them, they take just like chocolate pudding! I thought it would taste awful, but he really liked it.....

Pick up a couple high protein/low carb shakes for him Vija. Something like SlimFast's new low carb shakes would be good for him. [I really like the chocolate one's] He'll still get lots of vitamins and protein this way without having to worry about if he is eating or not. Protein helps with healing but I haredly doubt he'll be feeling like eating a piece of meat.

As a nurse and mom who has gone through this twice, there is one word of advice. Most kids will NOT drink. The kids that ultimately do the best are the ones who have parents who are strong and force fluids into them. My second one who went through it and was not drinking, was beginning to dehydrate, and was going to wind up rehospitalized. So I grabbed a large syringe filled with water, layed him on his back with my knees on his shoulders and started squirting water down his throat...he was choking and screaming. After I did this twice, he thought this "witch" is nuts and he started drinking. :p

But honestly, keeping the throat wet makes it hurt less, and decreases the chances of bleeding. The child needs the parent to be firm with them. Good luck!!!

Thinking good thoughts for your son Vija and wishing him a speedy recovery!!

:) tamie

My DS had his tonsils and adenoids out last year and I was a nervous wreck. He did just fine, though. Will keep your DS and you in my prayers.
