My 5yo DS has pain in his leg that is preventing him from walking normally. Soemtimes it hurts so much he wants to be carried. This is around the knee area and it does look a little swollen. When he walks, he keeps his leg very straight and out to the side. This has me very worried and I am taking hm to the doctor in the morning. Anyone have any ideas?

I have heard from my cherubs dr. growing pains and with my oldest son a calcium deposit. Good luck and my thoughts are with you.

Faith, trust, and pixie dust to you both.

It could be something as simple as growing pains. I'd take him to his ped to make sure it isn't something very serious though.

Good luck. When something is up with my babies I tend to fret... Hope Doc gives you a clean bill of health. Get that boy fixed up so he can walk around WDW! :)

I hope it is nothing.. and please do know that when children grow it can be TRUELY painfull. (hense the term growing pains) when our DS shot up last month (literally grew one inch in two months) he was in terrible pain, once the growth spurt stopped he was fine again.

I am glad you are getting him checked out. It could be juvenile arthritis-----yes there is such a thing-----I had it for years before a p.e. teacher recognized it in 7th grade. My mother just told me I had growing pains and not to complain!

Thank Goodness for that P.E. teacher!!
I do agree to get it checked out... also by the way my DS is ten not five and his growth was VERY obvious as he is now only an inch shorter than me...

just saw this thread while doing a search and wondering how your son is? My daughter has JRA and I know how difficult a diagnosis juvenile arthritis is. You are in my thoughts and I hope you DS pains are not anything serious

Thanks for popping this back, ohMom. Do hope things went well, Susy, my best for your little guy. And to you also, ohMom, and Piper too.

My son had the same problem and we were told it was Lyme disease. He had lots of rounds of antibiotics and it would go away only to flare up again a couple of months later. Hes now 19 and hasnt had a problem in about 4 years.
Hope your son is ok.

My dd had this and it was very bad. Took her to dr's had tests including a negative limes test. Dr. said juvenile arthritis. One night it got so bad dh carried her to the car and we took her to Children's hospital
It was Lyme's Disease. You can get false positives with the first test they do for this. One day on meds and she showed improvement.
She also had had pain in her wrists and ankles. Just not as bad as the knees.
