DS has a job interview tomorrow for an EMT position in the neighboring county. Why is this on the budget board? Because I'll get a raise if he gets hired. He's currently on my insurance at work & if he gets hired, he'll have his own! So that means I get a raise. So please send prayers & pixie dust!

Thanks! He's very excited and I think he would be great at this. He has such compassion for people. Fingers crossed!

It may be better to keep the whole family on one insurance. Check both policies, the coverage options and be sure to check when his insurance is in effect so you don't cancel him prior to his having coverage. His might cost more than yours or visa versa. just sayin. hope he gets the job!!!!

Can you change your dependents midyear? We have to keep the insurance as is, until the next enrollment period.

Every job I've had, a spouse's employment changing is an event that causes an 30 day window for enrollment changes, without waiting for open enrollment.

I'll keep this in mind. Thanks!

Just got a text from DS. He said it went really well. Not sure when they'll let him know something, but I know the HR Director in that county & she was going to put in a good word for him. That never hurts. We need a fingers crossed smiley. :goodvibes

Where I work I cannot cover any children or a spouse that has the ability to have their own insurance through their job. I currently cover our children and my husband himself as that was the most cost efficient for us., Of course if there is a wait period once you son starts his job you can keep him on until it kicks in.

Good luck wishes to your son. It is so exciting when they get jobs. I had a child graduate from college last month and is starting an engineering job on Monday with immediate insurance. My other son is graduating next month and starting his job the next day with a 90 day wait period. I believe in November I will get a raise when I go to myself +1 as all I will have left is my daughter that is in college.

Good luck to your son and thank you for his service as an EMT. It's a tough job.

Thanks for this! I'm about 95% sure he has a FULL TIME job offer coming his way. He was called to do a drug test & sign to do a criminal background check which he went to do yesterday. And the lady in charge of hiring with the EMS said she couldn't formally offer it to him until all paperwork & tests were done, but gave him the dates that his local training would start.

With all that being said, he's ecstatic! And I'm so very proud of him. And he'll be making a great salary to start out & has very little college debt. So he can start paying that off. And we've checked about the insurance. Since he will be a local government employee it will be provided to him at no cost and is comparable to or better than the insurance he has with me. And I can take him off dental also. So I'll be getting a raise too. I'll be sure to find out when his is effective before I have him removed from mine.

Thanks for the prayers & pixie dust.

Congrats to your son and also you for you "raise" :) I wish him well in his new career. My husband has been in EMS for 17 years and it is a good job with great benefits. Hopefully they will stop trying to take those away. Anyways Congrats and I hope he enjoys it!
