My oldest ds woke up this morning with the chicken pox. By bedtime tonight he is really covered all over his back, belly, neck and face. He also has a sore throat and feels like there maybe spots in it.

To top it all it this is his last week of primary school before moving to the academy in august and tomorrow is prize giving. The p7's always get presented with an album of their time at school along with certificates etc so he is gutted to be missing it.

I need lots of pixie dust that my other 2 kids get it quickly or not at all. We go on holiday in 25 days. So incubation is about 2 weeks, if they don't get it at the same time one of them could have it for our holidays :scared1::scared1:

Wishing ds better for you

Could you ring the school to see if you could pop in to pick up the album & certificate although i know it's not going to be the same as being there to recieve it :)

Aww bless him, I hope he isn't too uncomfortable in this heat

:wizard:Fingers crossed that you're all chicken pox free before your holiday :wizard:

I hope that he is feeling better - he has my sympathy I had it about this time of year when I was 17 it was dreadful - one of my parents friends who was a nurse recomended luke warm baths with bi-carbonate of soda in them - it helped with the itching for a while at least I don't think I have ever been so clean - i hope that he is not suffering to much and not too dissappointed about not attending prize giving

Oh no how terrible!

We had the very same thing before we went to Disneyland Paris in May...at the end of April Kacee burst out in chicken pox and it was really touch and go as to weather we could go or not.

Luckily they crusted over with two days to spare and at that stage the Doctor did us a note to say that he was no longer contagious...lucikly we didn't need it and our youngest, Macklyn, who was only 3 months old didn't get it at all.

Fingers crossed that it all works out for you.

thanks everyone.

He is feeling awful this morning, he hasn't got a inch on his face where there are no spots. He has them in his mouth, ears, eyelids. He is covered everywhere else too. He seems to have it quite bad. He is sat in trousers, t- shirt and fleece and asking for heating on - I'm in vest and shorts and still hot!!!.

As for his presentation I am going as the other 2 will be getting their things so I will collect all his for him, it's just a shame he won't be there as the p7 one is special.

Ouch! That sounds awful, he's got it really bad.

My two had it a few christmases ago. Eldest was two and a half and youngest was three months, they didn't have it as bad as your son but what did help was bathing in Oilatum, which is meant for children that suffer with ezcema. It helps keep the skin supple and stops it drying out and getting even itchier. I didn't bother with the calomine as it just cracked on the skin making it itchy.
I had it bad in my 20's and still have some scars now. Where DH's hair in now thining ;) we can see CP scars from when he was a little boy.
I do hope your other two don't get it, it is possible for them to dodge it - my friends son has dodged it about half a dozen times and must be immune.

Sorry about his presentation. Good luck:hug:

Sending hugs to your Son .
I am no expert(+all children are different) but going on how my Dd8 had it(which was pretty severe)+what the hospital told me(she was admitted suffering from fits due to the chicken pox). The child thinks they are cold but in fact they are burning up inside-please get him to wear just a t-shirt+shorts-even just shorts :thumbsup2.Regulary take his temperature.
Keep an eye on his temperature, for at least the first 5-6 days as this is when the spots are peaking at there worst+can cause convulsions from the raised temperature.
You may find it best,to contact your GP/NHS Direct for a little advice being as though you have now said they are in his mouth-chicken pox can, once in the mouth be a sign of the chicken pox being inside the body-sorry it's difficult for me to write down what i mean.
The Dr at the Hospital also recommended a cool bath with 1 tablespoon of bicarbonate powder in 2 times a day-this takes the redness of the spots down+soothes the itching skin-then dab on calamine lotion.
Change pj's every day-as when the blisters start to pop they leave the puss on the pj's and can cause infection to other recently popped blisters.

As for my other Dd4,she came down with it exactly 2 weeks after Dd8's was nearly gone+cleared up,she had it quite mildly+thankfully no problems with her at all :thumbsup2.Not all siblings go on to catch it,i have never had CP+never caught it from my girls.

I hope my info has'nt worried you in any way,i apologise if it has -but just wanted to give you some advice as i was given by the Dr at my hospital-alot of what i was told i did'nt know about.x.

hope he gets better soon

Thanks, you haven't worried me. he is now sitting in just shorts, his temperature seems fine. He has had a few baths with the bi-carb in it. I have been using eurax lotion and spraying it on him, will try out the oilatum

Sorry to hear your son is suffering especially with the hot weather which l'm sure won't help. l was lucky with my 2 DS's they both came out in the spots on the exact same day, how that happened l'm not sure. l was advised to give them piriton to help with the itching but they only had very mild case so we were fortunate.

Hope you get to go on your holiday CP free ;)

Hope he gets over it quickly:hug:

DS2 has got chicken pox this morning, exactly 2 weeks after DS1. 2 weeks today I should be just arriving in Spain. Liam will be ok as he won't be infectious, probably still spotty if DS1 is anything to go by, But will Ebony get it? Hopefully not, she needs to get them, within the next few days to be safe.

Tonight Ebony has got chicken pox, we will be able to go on holiday as they will be over the infectious stage by then:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Aww sorry to hear the other ones have caught it,but it was probably inevitable. At least you know now they will be spot free for your holiday :thumbsup2.Hope they have been ok with it and no problems/complications?.x.
