He's going bald.... He is upset because he is getting huge bald patches on his head... I think it's a combination of the heat, wearing the helmet all the time and just the stress of being there. He said he had ordered some minoxidel (sp) shampoo to see if that helps at all. I didn't have any advise for him, but I did offer my sympthy because he's only 20 and thats awfully young to go bald.

My father used all this Nioxin (I think?) hair products, and he held onto his hair for AWHILE after that, while his younger brother is now completely bald. If he has a way to order that he should, my dad only has one small patch of missing hair on the back of his head.

Bless his heart powellrj:hug:

It is quite common to lose one's hair during times of extreme stress. I'm sure he is under a great deal of it. Hugs to him and your family. :grouphug:

Oh, sorry to hear that Raejean. Bless his heart......  Hugs to your brave soldier, may he stay safe while over there.

On the lighter side of things............you can tell him a lot of women find *bald men* handsome!! ::yes:: :love1:

Geez - makes my 21 year-old's stress related hair loss seem pretty minor. He broke up with his girlfriend, tried to carry 20 college units and work a part-time job when he noticed his bald patch was getting bigger.
Once your DS gets out of there, he should see a huge improvement. (if it's patchy, it's probably alopecia - which is stress-related or from medication - it will grow back). However, my older DS has his Dad's hairline - and it's just going - going......

Praying your DS stays safe.

My DH will sympathize with him. He joined the Marines at 17, got his head shaved, and it never grew back. He says months later, he still looked like the first week guys, while all his buddies had hair again.

It does sound like the helmet and the stress could cause it. Is he taking vitamins? That will help, too.

Hope he stays safe over there!

I'm really sorry this is happening to your son. It wouldn't surprise me at all to find out that it is stress related. Which in a way would be good because then his hair would grow back as soon as his stress level went down. I'm just really sorry for everything your son is going through and he's in my prayers.

I'm sorry about the hair loss, but I don't have any advice. I just wanted to let you know that I am grateful to your son for the work he is doing for our country and for Iraq. I have said a prayer for his health and safety.

Krista :)

thanks for all your kind words and all of your suggestions, I will pass them along!!
