DS caught Chicken Pox at WDW

They can do a blood test to see if they are immune. This is what we are doing with my 8 year old who had cp as a 6 month old. If/when she needs blood drawn she will get a cp titer done to see if she is immune. I refuse to give her the shot for it if she is truly immune.

This is what he is having next week. As long as its confirmed, he won't have to have the 2nd shot. They asked me to bring in some digital pictures as well for more documentation. I tried getting one today...it was blurry. I need to try w/more light or something.

To the PP who thinks that chicken pox is just something to get over:

I had chicken pox in 1971 when I was five years old. I was hospitalized for twenty-two days. I had a 50% chance of not surviving and a 90% chance of permanent brain damage. I beat the odds. I was told to NEVER get the smallpox vaccine, as it might be fatal for me.

Thats the disease you encourage children to play together and catch.

To the OP--I pray your child has only a mild case.

I'm sorry you suffered so badly when you had it. That must have been a very scary time.

While a lot of kids, like yourself, get it very badly and makes them quite ill (some even die), most kids will just suffer through the fever/spots/itching.

I'm not so sold on the vaccine as my DD had it when it first came out...was the end all of vaccines and she was even exposed to the CP several times in daycare and got nothing (post vaccine). But this past summer the ped said now she needed a booster shot. I'm not so sure she won't continue to need boosters throughout her life. It may be one of those things that you do need to actually catch to be fully and permanently immune to. I think I'd rather have had her exposed to the real thing than risk her getting it as an adult.

I lived in Europe until I was in K so no vaccinations. I had everything under the sun before I was 18mths old and each illness was very mild and gave me a lifelong immunity. That's something I can't say for my kids. Not sure which way to gamble is worse really. :confused3

maybe it's BEDBUGS!!:rotfl2:

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: That is the one thing I worry about when we stay at hotels. I clean the hotels when we get there with my handy pine sol but I can't clean the beds ew ew ew I hope your son feels better.

My son gets a rash almost every time we go on vacation. It usually subsides in a few days. A bit itchy, some little bumps, but no other symptoms.

It's happened at Disney almost all our trips, but also when we stay at hotels at the beach. I've decided that it's probably from the detergent they use on the towels, which is likely much more harsh than what I use at home.

However...I am convinced that I contracted mumps at WDW in fall 2006. I don't recall the exact incubation time, but it was right when we were there. My doctor (and the allergist and the ENT I went to) said that occasionally adults can contract things that they were vacinated for as a child...either the vaccine "wore off" or it's a different strain.

I just read yesterday that the immunity wears off and it is one of the vaccines that is recommended to be done again for adults. There are a few others that are worth checking out. I had both of my sons vaccinated for Chicken Pox and I plan on getting the Shingles vaccination when I turn 50. My father had shingles which turned into something else. I don't remember the name but it's pain in the nerves of the head. Sometimes it's so bad that he wants to die.
