My 15 month old caught chicken pox while we were at wdw. No doubt he caught it there..it's 14-16 day incubation period. We were there 4/18 - 4/26...so no doubt in my mind!! 4/20 is 16 days ago.

The poor thing. Doctor said it should be a milder case, cuz he had his 1st shot at his 1 month check in January.

He had a "pimple" on his head last night, but we thought it was a bug bite. We went out for ice cream last night and I was swatting bugs away. Well, getting him ready for bed tonight, they're on his upper body and after careful looking another few areas.

14-16 days is the average incubation period, but it can be as short as 10 days or as long as 21.
Chances are he got it at WDW, possibly from someone who didn't even know they were sick yet. But, just wanted to let you know he might have picked it up a little earlier or later than you thought.
Hope he stays with a mild case and feels better soon.

Yeah a little earlier and a little later would still put us at WDW, we were there for 9 days 4/18 - 4/26. So chances are...the only place he was other than at WDW was at dayare, leading up to the trip and there are no cases there, yet that is. Now I feel really guilty, but it was just one spot that looked like a bug bite this am and daycare wouldn't have noticed any of them that popped up over the day, cuz they are all on his upper body, which is covered by a shirt. They are mostly just spots right now about 4 "pimple" looking bumps.

My 8 year old son just got a mild case of them too. He had his vaccinations, but he mysteriously about 2 1/2 weeks ago had about 5-6 "bug bites" on each arm. It's a little early in NJ for mosquitos, especially a couple of weeks ago.

I hope your son only gets a few and they go away quickly. :)

DS4 and DS2 picked Chicken Pox up from WDW last December too. Come to find out in the UK, they don't routinely vaccinate. I'm sure it was from someone who didn't even know they had it. Oh well. Saved both of them from getting the 2nd shot and they are fully immune now. :)

I thought it was early for mosquitos too, until I swatted one off my little ones face while we were having ice cream last night.

So we just came back 4/15-25 and my 10 month old has 4 or 5 "pimple" thingys.

We were at the Ped on Monday and I pointed them out...He said "maybe chicken pox" and told me to keep an eye out for more!

She's got no other symptoms

Hope all the spotty's are recovering...... In the UK we don't vaccinate as it is seen as one of those childhood diseases that you just get and get over - we tend to encourage our kids to play together when they have chickenpox, as - if they are healthy to begin with - chickenpox is less NASTY the younger you are when you first catch it. My friend Liz caught it at 35 ....ouch.......

They also reckon in some journals that the younger you catch it the less chance of shingles when older....

Hmm..we were there at the same time. Where were you saying?? We were at BWV and spent a lot of time at the Boardwalk!!

DS10 got them in K. We had no idea where he got them. He had the vaccination so he gto a mild case, and DS5 who was 1 at the time did not get them at all. It just happens.

So we staying at OKW 15-19 but we were at the Boardwalk quite a bit. DH loves it there. Then we moved on to Vero Beach.

But We aren't seeing any more spots. Maybe it was just some non-specific viral type rash. :confused3

We were there the same week (4/19-4/26), and both my son and my niece had the chicken pox last week, after we returned. My son had been vaccinated and my niece had not. Both had very mild cases.

We also assumed they caught the pox in Disney. Looks like we were right!

I noticed them this week also. But my sons were about three weeks ago now. Just before that really warm week. Of course there is still the possibility that they were just mosquito bites. The doctor didn't want me bringing him in just for a dozen possible chicken pox marks. So I guess we'll never know the truth. Unless he gets one of those pox marks.

Really? He didn't want you to bring him in? I would want to know, but that's me. I wouldn't want to give him an unnecessary vaccination if he did have them, but I wouldn't want to skip the vaccination if he didn't have them. Chicken Pox goes from a mostly "harmless" illness in childhood to a really dangerous illness once a kid starts puberty.

As much as my mother purposely exposed me to chicken pox, I never got them as a kid. Was vaccinated as an adult after my first pregnancy because if I had gotten them when I was pregnant there could be severe birth defects. My OBGYN was not happy that I didn't get vaccinated before getting pregnant; over the years she had seen a couple of people whose kids suffered from chicken pox while pregnant and I could easily prevent that. But, at the time, I wasn't planning on getting pregnant for a few more months and the vaccine was on my to do list. At least with a boy, you don't need to worry about that. Chicken Pox behaves differently in vaccinated kids too, so you really need to see them to know if they are chicken pox. Oh well. If it doesn't bother you, it shouldn't bother me.

Yeah, I don't know what to think. We just saw my Ped on Monday for her routine appt. He said let me know if more break out because then we don't give her the vaccination... I'm assuming we still need it because she just had the 4 or 5? and nothing else? So it probably wasn't Chicken Pox. I don't know what a "mild" case would look like...surely more than 4 or 5 marks right?

It can come from anywhere. My dad had chicken pox as a child, and then when I was in 5th grade, he had one mark that looked like a bug bite. A couple of weeks later, I got the chicken pox and they realized that I got it from him. He had picked it up at work from a patient who was in the early stages of it. It was one of those rare cases where he got it a second time, but it was very mild.

I can remember working in the ER when a mom brought in a 3 yr old straight from chuckie cheese, he had a fever and rash......chicken pox. He had the fever before going there, but they went there anyway. Why someone would take a sick kid into a place and let them play in the indoor play area is beyond me:sad2:

They can do a blood test to see if they are immune. This is what we are doing with my 8 year old who had cp as a 6 month old. If/when she needs blood drawn she will get a cp titer done to see if she is immune. I refuse to give her the shot for it if she is truly immune.

That is better than giving an unnecessary shot, but there is still the trauma of the needle for blood work and then still the shot if not immune. I'd just rather have a Dr. examine my child and save the needles all together. But, that's me.

My son gets a rash almost every time we go on vacation. It usually subsides in a few days. A bit itchy, some little bumps, but no other symptoms.

It's happened at Disney almost all our trips, but also when we stay at hotels at the beach. I've decided that it's probably from the detergent they use on the towels, which is likely much more harsh than what I use at home.

However...I am convinced that I contracted mumps at WDW in fall 2006. I don't recall the exact incubation time, but it was right when we were there. My doctor (and the allergist and the ENT I went to) said that occasionally adults can contract things that they were vacinated for as a child...either the vaccine "wore off" or it's a different strain.
