I am looking for a good dry skin lotion. I have never had skin this dry before, it must be another joyous part of getting older, lol! My hands are so dry that they itch and my legs turn a very festive red color when I shower! ;) What do you all use? My main problem is that I have very sensitive skin and cannot use anything flowery. Please give me some great recomendations! :cool1:

I've always had dry skin. my current favorite is vaseline intensive for dry skin...I get the scentless. I would also recommend cutting showers to every other day if possible, and keeping them short and not too hot. if your house is dry, add a humidifier or 2 (make sure to keep very clean).

I like the Aveeno Intense Relief Hand Cream. For facial moisterizing I like Cetaphil Cream. Both are good for sensitive skin. Also consider the previous suggestion of a humidifier. I sleep with one in my bedroom and it does wonders. It even helps my dog who suffers from very itchy skin.

I use Lubriderm daily moisture lotion for normal to dry skin. Fragrance free. I love it - it is non-greasy.

I love long hot showers but during the winter I have to limit the length and temperature of the water. My skin gets so itchy that I think could scratch off my skin if I don't use my lotion!!!!

I have VERY dry skin. Most creams and lotions do nothing for me. I was getting so that my shins were itching like crazy. I used to use Vaseline Intensive Care Advanced for years and it always worked. This year--not enough. So I bought a TUB of that Cetaphil Cream (it is in a green tub). As soon as I get out of the shower, I slather it all over my face, neck, arms, legs. Then after that, I coat my face with regular Vaseline. I towel it all off before applying makeup. So far, that seems to be the ONLY thing that's working. I don't know what I'll do when it stops working.

JanetRose,

I get Cetaphil cream at BJ's (wholesale club like Sam's or Costco--those 2 might have it also). You can find it at many drugstores as well. You want the stuff in the big tub with the green label (16-20 oz.). It also comes in a small green tube that would be purse size, but I haven't tried that. I personally did not like the moisterizing lotion, and therefore, recommend the cream.

When I was in my teens my skin would get so dry I would literally flake. :earseek: One thing that helped for me was to apply Johnson's Baby Oil all over straight after showering (onto damp skin). For my hands and face I used a cream by Neutrogena, can't remember what it was called but it was supposedly used by Norwegian fishermen...

Cetaphil cream can be found just about anywhere. I don't like the lotion either, it seems like it leaves and oily sheen on my face. The cream is nice. I also use something called Body Butter from Paula Begoun, online. It really helps when my skin is irritated and hurting. It doesn't hurt at all and is very soothing.

I second what everyone else here has said. You might have to try a few different lotions/creams to see what works for you though. The above products are all great.

Some suggestions that I have from my daughter's dermo doctor.

Less showers/baths during the winter months - warm/room temperature water. Pat dry and immediately rub Eucurin lotion (you can try one of the other lotions above also). Cotton clothing (there was a period where this was all my daugher could wear).

You can also try regular vaseline petroluim (sp?) jelly - greasy - but works great. Cortaid cream for extreme areas -

For wintertime, dry, cracked skin, you can't beat the Neutrogena hand cream. It has a completely different consistency than any of the others on the market. I swear by it. It's this one, by the way:

My pedicurist last year suggested that I use vitamin E oil because most lotions have alcohol in them which drys the skin. I get the vitamin E oil near the vitamins and supplementals in Walmart...costs 3 or 4 dollars a bottle and a little goes a long way. When I get out of the shower, I rub it on my legs and feets and put on a pair of old cotton socks...they keep my shoes from getting all oily and the heat helps hold in the moisture. I also use it on the rest of my dry skin spots, but the feet and legs are the worst for me.

My aunt uses good ol' petroleum jelly lathered on her elbows and uses the tops of old socks (her husband's tube socks) as elbow covers and goes to bed...she's almost 80 and her skin is soft and smooth.

www.kiehls.com

Their Creme de Corps body lotion has no fragrance and is the only thing that stops the itching for me.
Their Intensive Hand cream is a must every night.
A little pricey, but worth it!
They will also send you up to three samples of products to try if you order online. The only stores I have found it in is Sak's and Nordstroms... stores I would never shop!
I love online though, especially when they have free shipping!
