I know everyone is going to tell me to go to the doctors and whatever, but I am SOOOOO hating the eye doctors. ;)

I have really great vision, have never had any eye problems before and probably the only one in my entire family that does NOT have glasses or contacts. (everyone actually says that I "took" everyone's good eyesight) :rotfl:

So needless to say, the last time I've been to the eye doctors has been many, many YEARS!!! I've just never had a reason to go. I do, however, need to bring my son and sometimes my DH. So I witness how the eye doctor checks out the eyes and sometimes have to put drops in them (which TOTALLY FREAKS ME OUT, SERIOUSLY) So I can't really picture myself sitting in his chair while he tries to figure out what my problem is and him trying to fiddle around with my eyes. Skeeves me out I guess. Who knows. LOL

Anyhow, here's my problem. My left eye tends to be watery all the time (I remember my grandmother being like this too) and itchy which in turn make them really red and irritating because I am CONSTANTLY rubbing them. I have bought some eye drops and try to put them in myself but even that freaks me out. But I refuse to have someone else put them in. I cannot STAND to have ANYTHING near my eye, let alone something going in it. So what I do is pull my lower lid down while looking in the mirror and squirting a drop or two of Clear Eyes Itchy Eye Drops into the lower lid, then close my eye and HOPE & PRAY that most of it stays in my eye. LOL After a couple minutes in seems to help for a short period of time. Then it's back to rubbing my eyes constantly because they itch so much.

I mean, I know I have to go to the doctors even though I don't want to. But I was just hoping someone here would tell me what works for their itchy eyes. A lot of times, I will also wet down a face cloth, put it in the freezer for a couple minutes so it gets nice and cold and place it on my eyes. It does work for a while, but then it's back to rubbing them constantly. I'm just so sick and tired of it.

Have you tried taking an oral antihistamine? Sounds like allergies and allergy season has been pretty bad this year.

I have taken some Walmart brand allergy pills (they seem to work the best for me) It does seem to help some but my eyes also water and are itchy even during non-allergy season. It's just worse right now, probably due to my allergies right now.

Try these two products. They are more expensive, but you get what you pay for:

Systane eye drops. They are long lasting. My doctor gave them to me after I got Lasik eye surgery. They are the only thing that last for hours.

Zyrtec allergy medicine. take one at night before bedtime. You CAN get the drugstore generic called: Cetirizine. That is the ONLY allergy medicine that ever cleared up my watery, itchy, burning eyes. I literally thought it was hype in advertising when different allergy medicines say they work to relieve the eyes. I NEVER had one do that, until Zyrtec. Not Claratin, Zyrtec.

You can take Zyrtec all year round as it's also good for pet allergies, and non-seasonal allergies.

DS15 has bad allergies and they affect his eyes. His Allegra doesn't help much for the eye so he has prescription eye drops. If you don't like eye drops (I don't either) you can put the bottle in the corner of your eye and drop them in-then tilt your head to the side so they run over your eyeball. This is what I have to do if I use eye drops. It probably isn't the 'recommended' way but it works. If I were you I would practice touching my eyes to get used to having things near your eyes because it sounds like lots of eye drops are in your future.

I have severe dry eye. I was on Systane for a while and then my eye doctor put me on Restasis (prescription). It has done wonders (been on it for 6 months). I also pair that with GenTeal Gel at night before bed.

Sometimes we don't want to go to the doctor, but in the end it might save you discomfort and lead you to a more speedy recovery.

There is a $3 off coupon in the Rite Aid sales flyer this week. Use that to get the smallest bottle, to see if it works for you. :)

If it does, switch to buying the 1 oz bottles at Amazon, with free shipping. It is the cheapest price I have been able to find.

Yes, if the Systane wasn't working my dr would have moved me up to Restasis.
