1. where to get it
2. how do I make like a boiling cauldron of punch? do I have to use iron or can I use the plastic(afraid it will melt)
3. how long does it last?

Any help appreciated. Any other ideas on how to use it.

Dry ice is very very dangerous if you don't know how to use it properly! Please make sure you do tons of research before you use it. Do NOT consume any! So no adding it to your drinks. Use regular ice for your drinks but not mixed with the punch/dry ice. Be careful storing this stuff too.

That is partially incorrect. There is a FOOD grade version of dry ice that you can put in drinks.

There was star trek theme restaurant in Las Vegas, Quarks Bar. I would always get these bubbling drinks that indeed have dry ice in them.

Heres a pic of that drink:

We put dry ice in our punch every Halloween. Have never had a problem with this.

There are some very interesting experiments you can do with dry ice as well. Where we live you can purchase dry ice at our local drive-thru dairy. Look it up in the yellow pages to find a business which sells dry ice in your area.

Have fun and be careful.

you should be able to get dry ice from your local grocery fish counter or meat counter (for free i believe, but maybe you have to buy some meat or something?). we use it at work all the time (i'm a biologist), just be very cautious about handling it, use oven mitts, because it's really cold! i've handled it numerous times with bare hands, but for only a second to throw it into a bucket or the sink and i haven't burnt my fingers off yet. that being said, when i'm actually handling the ice for real (not just to throw a rogue piece that fell on the counter into the sink) i definitely take precautions and use our special cold gloves. a couple of pellets last a long time, so you really don't need much.
