Hi everyone, hope you are well this Thursday :)

I spent most of last night coughing :/ Thank God, I did get some rest and am better today, especially when I am not laying down. Trying to rest in bed is when coughing stirs right up :P I am in choir at my church and am staying home from rehearsal tonight. I very much pray to be able to sing on Sunday.

I am so Blessed to not need any medications. I will share that even a low dose Tylenol, ladies, during that time of month has a way of upsetting my system. My main memories of cough medicines are as a kid how hideous they tasted and I am not sure they did much else!

Last Spring, when I had a longer cough (this one just must go away super duper as in the next day quick) I did get a cool mist humidifier. I have no clue whether it did not do anything for me because of the degree of my cough or not---I mean maybe such a thing would be worth another try? I got a refund on it so no longer have it. I read a little while ago that Vicks or a Generic store brand Vapo Rub on your feet before bed is a more natural/no side effects (than cough medicine)way of stopping a cough in its tracks? Has anyone heard of or tried this? And if so, does it smell bad?

Thanks so much. God Bless!

Thanks, Mystery Machine for your reply. I think it is a cold all right. My nose was runny last night (95% dry today) and I do have some congestion. I just as I said would love to sleep better tonight to get well.

I never heard of Vicks on your feet. My mom would always rub Vicks on my throat & upper chest. Then wrap my neck with a thick sock overnight (not tight, just to keep the warmth/vapors in). That always seemed to help.

I am not one for taking medicine either though I do take zyrtec daily to help control allergies. I have oral allergy syndrome and if I can control my seasonal allergies then my food allergies aren't as severe.

Last time I had a cold I tried a natural remedy that I found on pinterest and it worked wonderfully. It was organic apple cider vinegar, honey, ginger and cayenne pepper.

Thanks to cancer, I had my left submandibular salivary gland removed, plus radiation about killed off the salivary glands I still have. I have a constant tickle, dry mouth and dry hacking cough. Humidifiers do help. Also they have products made specifically for dry mouth. Perhaps trying something like Biotene, or Oasis dry mouth mouthwash would be helpful for you. I think even Act makes a dry mouth mouthwash now.

And yes, reflux will make you get a tickle and a cough, too.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I appreciate them :)

I read about the Vicks on here from doing a cough search. I then Google-d and it said the same thing!

Coughs are strange that's for sure. Some days I have coughing fits like all day and people are like geez you really need to stop smoking. It's like I don't even smoke though. I dunno, it is strange...today happens to be one of those days.

Thanks for double checking, bgirldeb, I meant I don't take any meds period :) I do sadly remember my Grandma experiencing dry mouth from some of her meds many years ago.

I don't use vapor rub but I do use an essential oil vapor stick or blend on our (kids mainly) feet as needed. The reason for putting it on the feet is based on reflexology and that the pores on the feet are thicker than pores elsewhere on the body. This allows for absorption more quickly and for it reach the bloodstream quicker.
