Drunken Bridesmaid!

I think this happens a lot at weddings because people forget to eat. Everyone gets so involved in getting ready and pictures and everything that by the time the reception rolls around they have one or two drinks and BAMMO. It hits them like a ton of bricks. Some have the good sense to cool it - some just keep drinking.

trip and ead79: sometimes you just need to laugh these things off. There's nothing you can do about it (it's similar to the weather - I've never understood people getting all worried about their wedding day weather).

I wonder how the bride and groom viewed it. Further, I wonder how the bridesmaid felt about it the next day.

My wife was a wedding consultant and you would not beleiove the number of people who look at a wedding as a chance to get really tanked for free. Most people just laugh it off and move on.

We avoided the problem at our own wedding by not serving alchohol at our reception, except for a champange toast (for which we also offered a non-alcoholic alternative). We have a few relatives with drinking problems and we did not wish to have to deal with any embarassment they might cause. There were also a few recovering alcoholics present and we wanted to make sure the atmosphere was comfortable for them.

We had a cash bar as we knew we had many guests that like to drink and hoped it would be a bit of a deterent for them. It was not and thankfully we had a limo for the ride home for them as we would not let them drive. We collected the keys to everyones car and only after taking a test would they be allowed to get them back. We had a bar tender that had a testing machine for the hall it helped cover their butts also just in case.

Humans. Tsk tsk.

We had 5-hour open bar at our reception and no problems.

However, I was once in a wedding where all the groomsmen (friends and relatives of the loser groom) ARRIVED at the Church DRUNK. Basically, I had to hold up the creep who "escorted" me down the aisle. Marriage lasted 2 years.

I was a bridesmaid at my brother's wedding. My cousin got so drunk, he hit on me...in front of my uncle (his dad)!

I excused myself REAL quick! "Oh, Rose (the bride) is calling me, I gotta go, nice talking with you!"

Yikes!

I'm seriously considering only having beer, wine, and soft drinks for my wedding. My dad's side drinks beer by the gallon all the time, so they won't get smashed the way they might with liquor. I'm hopping it helps, anyway!

Drunken grooms. Ah yes. Still more of my wife's relatives. Her cousin showed up at his wedding completely drunk. He could barely walk down the aisle. His mom and dad had been divorced for quite some time due to his father's drunkeness. So what did good old dad do on the occasion of his son's wedding? Take him out and get him good and drunk. Thanks Chuck.

Wow! I consider the weather something that can't be controlled. I would hope that people would have some SELF-control. I don't see a similarity at all. I certainly wouldn't expect an apology from the weather, but I would from someone that exhibited that kind of poor judgement.

I was a bridesmaid several years ago. After the wedding, all of the bridesmaids went to the room designated as our changing room. The bride was there as well. I know I was very anxious to get out of my poofy dress and ill fitting undergarment. I had stripped down to my pantyhose before I realized that the groom was also in the room. So shoot me. I was the only one at our table who liked the champagne! Luckily my friend, the bride laughs about this and says that I was the first naked woman that her husband saw on their wedding night.

YIKES! Well, it just adds to the memories. How embarrassing for the bridesmaid, though.

Ultimately, you have NO control over other people. That's the similarity.

Well, I guess a funny drunk is one thing, but an obnoxious oine is another. I have heard of weddings where people get drunk and get into huge fights at the wedding etc.

My DH had a co-worker whose daughter married a guy who had to hand his drink to the best man in order to take the bride's hands to get married!!!!!!!!!!!!! They weren't being married in a church, but in a hotel, with the ceremony in one room and the reception in another.

The marriage lasted less than a year...big surprise.

I remember, how in the months leading up to my wedding, I blasted my husband and his groomsmen daily with the "THOU SHALT NOT DRINK BEFORE MY WEDDING" speech.

But guess who was the first one to freak out and bring a malibu and orange juice in a Tropicana Twister bottle into rehearsal the night before?

ME. So it was pretty much open season after that. No one got drunk, we were all just pleasant and happy for the next two days.

Of course, the morning of the wedding I was so supremely witchy my hairdresser slipped me two Xanax and to ration out for the rest of the day (we had to be at the church at 11am and didn't get home until 12:30 midnight) after he put my veil on me, so I kind of serenely floated around the rest of the day smiling benevolently at people.

We had been to a wedding in the past where the bride was so sedated she looked like a bobblehead, Clint had threatened me with my life if I pulled that! He had no clue, but remarked that he couldn't believe I didn't yell at people over minor details.

I don't know how a bride could even get drunk at her own wedding. Everytime I tried to get a drink...someone would grab me to dance or come talk to someone...so I put the glass down and forget where it was, or come back and it would be gone. I probably "had" at least 15 drinks...but maybe only actually drank 2!

We had a bunch of folks (myself included) who got pleasantly toasted at my wedding. Made for some pretty funny memories. I only cared about who had the car keys. Drunks at a wedding I'm ok with - driving home afterwards is a big no-no in my book!

Oh, another good one...a friend of mine from school got married this past May and when her parents were making the rounds at each table, the oh-so-tipsy father of the bride tells me that I'm ravishing!! The poor mother of the bride handled it well...she turned to him and said, yes dear, she is and laughed! Can youimagine?!?!? I was pretty mortified but everyone at my table teased me all night!

having been in quite a few weddings...I'll raise my hand and say I've been "that bridesmaid" in the past.

Yes, I've fell lunging after that stupid bouquet (i had no shoes on!). The other time, I jumped to catch the bouquet, and sloshed beer down the front of my dress.

I was amoung friends...I had a good time with my other friends (who were just as tipsy as me)...I caused no scenes.

If I'm tacky...oh well.

For the record - I was sober as a nun at my own wedding

We had drinks in the morning while my dad and my ushers and best man were all getting ready for the wedding. We had drink in the limo on the way to the church (non denominational) and we had drinks before the ceremony in the back room while getting ready for the wedding and waiting for my DW to get there. Ya I was on the way to having a great BUZZ byt he time it all went together. We had a blast and it was a great wedding and we are now working on 7 years together.
