We got up at 6am and having noticed on Thursday night that the St Lucia Virgin Flight was delayed by 5 hrs, we had a strong feeling this would have an effect on our VS073 flight. We were right, had a new departure time of 16:30 instead of 13:30!!!!! :nonono: :nonono:
Rang Virgin Flying Club to see if we could stay at home rather than checking in for a 13:30 flight. They said we could stay at home but didnt sound too sure, so we rang Customer Services who told us a complete different story, i.e. NO - you had to check in as normal for a 13:30 flight :mad2: :mad2:
Really didnt want to hang around T2 for hours and hours, so chanced my hand by ringing Man Airport who kindly put me through to the virgin desk facing check in. They told us to stay at home but to check in by 1pm :spin: :spin:
Had breakfast at home and left for the airport at 12:15 arriving about 25 mins later (thanks Steve).
Now we have a confession to make - a couple of weeks ago, we were checking our seats on virgins website (due to the operational changes we had lost our seats at the back) and it was showing that we were now flying Premium Economy (Class K) and let us reserve seats in the 'bubble' upstairs. We both accused each other of paying but we hadnt and decided not to get too excited until we were sat in the seats!!!
We had been unable to do online check in and when we got to the check in desk (no one else there), they couldnt check us in and we heard them say 'need to ring virgin to get some tickets' :erm: The supervisor came over and said she had been waiting for us. They have no idea why we had been put into Premium Economy for free but as a gesture of goodwill, they would honour the seats :spin: :spin: :spin:
We finally took off at 17:00 (3.5 hours late).
Now I know it was free but the service was terrible. They gave us a menu which didnt have 2 of the items on and the other item they ran out of by the time they got half way. No duty free service (our pre-order was half short - ordered 800 cigs only got 400) and the entertainment had to be reset a couple of time.
We also had to go a different way round to avoid TS Kyle and it got a bit bumpy!!!
We landed in Orlando at 20:50 in the dark and were one of the first off and through immigration. We waited at the carousel for the cases and I couldnt believe it when they started to come out - ours were the first woo hoo.
Off we went to Alamo and given some of the bad reports, made sure there were no hidden extras to pay. We booked a 4x4 SUV and when we got up there, they didnt have any. They wanted to give us a mini van but they looked a bit old looking and we had wanted a 4x4 and ended up with a bit of a beast (for me anyway). Neil had made use of the free drinks so it was down to me to drive - in the dark - tired beyond belief!!!!!
Arrived at the hotel (Sheraton Studio City) about 22:10. We showered then BED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
