Hi
When we go to Florida in a couple of weeks we want to drop off our daughter and her friend at MK for the Halloween thing, but arn't going in ourselves.
Is there a drop off point somewhere so you don't have to pay the parking fee at the entrance ?
Many thanks

Great question and I am not 100% sure, I thought there was a drop off point at Ticket & Transportation Center, just follow the signs for the Polynesian, just before the Poly you will see the turn off on the right.

Like I say though never done this before so not sure.

Maybe you could head for the Contemporary Resort , drop off there so they can either walk or catch monorail to the park entrance?
And arrange a time to collect them there too.

You can't drop off at MK. The TTC is as close as you can get without arriving by Disney bus, boat or monorail.

What we do is drop off at the Contemporary - it's a 5 minute walk, tops.

ok thanks for that, didn't think of dropping off at the hotel, so we'll do that.
Just hope 2 scatterbrained 17 year old girls can find their way back to the right hotel :)

Will they be allowed to just drop off at a MK Hotel or the TTC without paying the parking though? - I assume by the sounds of it they arent staying onsite and so wont have a resort parking permit.

No, we arn't staying onsite.
So is there a problem dropping off at a Disney hotel then ?
Don't see why we should have to pay for parking if we're not actually using a parking space.

Not a problem getting through gate without paying. Just say you're dropping someone off at the Contemporary and they'll let you through fine - guess they trust people to be honest.

Just make sure you are on the far right side of the booths as that's where the road to the Cont. is, otherwise you'll have to get across all of the traffic which won't be easy!

Then when you get to the Cont., I am pretty sure that you can drop them just before the entrance to the car park, so won't have to actually go into the car park. But if you do, again just tell the security guard you're dropping off and he'll let you in.

There is an offical guest drop off, keep to the rigt after the toll booth and follow sings for the kennel club, drive past heading towards the Polly and it is on you right just before the Polly.

Yes, that's at the TTC. You'd then have to get the monorail or ferry to MK.

Getting back to the Contemporary is easy. They just need to come out of MK and turn right past the bus drop area. The "Walk Around The World" tiles (the ones bearing family names) take them right to the Contemporary parking lot.

I've been having some fun with little yellow pins on Google Earth. :teeth:

Firstly, here's an overview to show you where the Contemporary is in relation to MK's entrance. You can just about make out the red Walkway Around The World which runs more or less parallel with the monorail. (Interesting to see the staff car park between Main Street and Space Mountain).

Next is a closer view of the Contemporary gatehouse and parking lot. What we do is drive through the gate and swing immediately left. You can see the path there which connects first with the pedestrian crossing and then straight into the Walkway Around The World.

This one shows the MK parking booths and the road which leads to the Contemporary to the right of the main sweep around to the TTC parking lot.

Somebody has way too much time on their hands. ;) Great work though Deb, you can't get any clearer than that. :goodvibes

you could always call at a Disney Hotel and they could catch a bus to MK from there and it takes them right to the main entrance.

i wouldn't drive all the way into the hotel - i'd just drop them off at the light (where the turn is for the contemporary) and have them cross right over to the MK.....
it's a shorter walk and you don't have to defend yourself to the guard at the gatehouse...

or turn towards the gatehouse, tell the guard you're just doing a u-turn, then as you're heading out, have them jump out of the car and walk to the MK...

I would strongly urge against this. This is a busy intersection with buses crossing all the time. It would be irresponsible of adults to try to get across the road at that point, let alone allow teenagers to do it. Far easier to just pass through the gate and drop them at the path where they can safely cross using the pedestrian crossing provided. Were you to stop at the lights, even assuming they were on red and you could stop without holding up those behind you, you'd have traffic passing on your right-hand side (i.e. those filtering into the Contemporary) and buses on your left.

That's effectively what I'm suggesting, but instead of doing a u-turn, drive into the parking lot and drop off next the the path (there's a fork between the cars right next to the pedestrian crossing), then simply drive on round the parking lot and back out. We've done it several times and it's the safest and simplest option. :)

i meant for them to get off at the red light and cross at the pedestrian crossing....
sorry if i didn't make myself clear....

Well thanks for all the replys, and the wonderful maps Deb.
One thing i didn't realize was that we would have to actually go through the parking ticket booths first to get to the hotel.
Is it really just a case of saying we're dropping off and they will let us through ? and i presume we will still be able to get through again around midnight to pick them up again ?

Yes, it really is that simple, henrydog. Keep to the very far right-hand lane (which is the lane the buses pass through) and tell them you're dropping someone at the Contemporary. People staying at the MK resorts do this all the time so, again, you won't have any problems doing the same thing at midnight.

With the toll booths last time we were there in April - there was a buses only lane that was on the far right and the next lane was marked for MK Resorts. :goodvibes
