Dropping off at the port?

Can someone review the whole "dropping the luggage and family at the port and returning the rental car" routine for me? What documentation will my DH need in order to get back in (his documents and photo ID or just photo ID)? Can I go ahead and check the family in without him and, if so, what does he need to do once he shows up?

Thanks!

:D

We've never rented a car before as we've always driven and parked at the port. I have always dropped DW and luggage off and parked the car as she would check us in and when coming back into the terminal I would just have to pass through security (metal detector) and head up the stairs. Just make sure when checking in, you have your spouse's BC and picture ID or passport with you so he can be cleared......If you are getting to the terminal once everyone else has boarded, you will need to wait for him to show up as he will need his KTTW card and a picture ID to board........Andy

If you need his picture ID to check him in while he returns the car wouldnt that mean he's driving to the rental office without his drivers license?

The picture ID does not necessarily need to be a DL, it can be any form of ID with his picture on it......Andy

Preb - we are doing the same thing - DH will drop us off and return the car while I do the check-in.

xABearx said the person checking in should have the driver's BC and picture ID. But I thought the driver needed that identification (and documents) to get back into the terminal.

We don't want to be waving to our DHs standing outside the terminal as the ship sails away!!!

Could someone who has done this with a rental car please let us know if the Driver should keep his documents and IDs - and check himself in when he returns from the rental car place?

Thanks!!

WE did this in August. DH dropped us at the terminal with luggage. He returned the rental car and returned by shuttle. I checked everyone in while he was gone. The CM checked him in, but held his KTTW card until he arrived at the terminal and he went up to the counter and showed his photo ID and they gave him the card. To get back into the terminal you need a photo ID. They will check everyone on a list as you arrive.

Ok, so if I take his documents and passport and he has his drivers license I can check him in and all he'll have to do is pick up his KTTW card, correct?

I'm still giggling about him not being able to get into the port and blowing him good-bye kisses from our veranda as we set sail...;)

Yes, as long as he has a picture ID or DL so they can match his name to the one on the manifest, he will be ok......Andy
