I will have a rental to get to the port. I wanted to drop off my wife, daughter(10), and son(8) with all the luggage at the port at 10:00am. Then, I'll drive back to rental agency to drop off the car and catch their shuttle back to the port. What documents will my wife need to have in order to check us in? Will it be too early for checking in? Will I return in time to check in with her? Will there anywhere to store the luggage? Should I leave one child with her and take one with to drop off the car? We are using Avis. We are staying at the Radisson the night before. I realize that Avis is now located separately from the Radisson. Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

Great Question.
We want to do the same thing in March next year. We have a group of 11 in two vans. There is no way the 11 of us and all our luggage will fit in one shuttle. We thought it would be better to drop most of the group at the terminal while the others return the vans. Just want to make sure what paper work the car return people will need when the return to the terminal.

We do the same thing every year.
Your wife can check everyone in, will need your birth certificate. However she will not be able to get your card/key. You will only need to show your picture ID and then you will be given your card/key. That is the fastest way. Don't forget to keep your photo ID when you go to return the car, you will need to get back into the terminal.

You do not need to worry about storing your luggage, it is taken from you at the curb and appears later outside your stateroom.

I believe 10 is too early, we never arrive untill around 12, but have read on this board that if you arrive too early they will not let you in the parking lot or terminal. Somehow I think I remember 10:30 as the time allowed in.

My husband always leaves the GD with me and takes GS will him. But whatever is your choice.

markey,
Would the people returning the rental cars need to show their cruise documents before entering the terminal or just the photo id?
Just want to make sure that DH has all the correct paper work with him.

I read on a previous post that sometimes you are not allowed into the Port until 10:30 AM.

He will need to show a photo ID to get past the guard at the entrance, they will verify his name being on the manifest.....Andy

Just his photo ID, when you turn to go into the parking lot there are people with clip boards with the names of the people who are sailing. There is where you will need your ID. Your name has to be on their list for them to let you in. Every adult will need to show their ID at this point.

For our last two cruises, my DH has dropped me and DS #2 at the terminal and returned the rental car with DS #1. I was able to check all of us in both times and they held their KTTW cards at the desk. When my family returned on the shuttle, they went up to the counter, showed their id's and were given the cards and we boarded. Very easy process. The porters meet your car at the curb and take the luggage from you. The only thing you need to carry inside the terminal is your daybag.

Thanks for clearing everything up for me. WOW!
This will make it so much easier on our group.:bounce: :bounce:
