Do runners drop bibs? Or do most people really stick to these disney runs? We wanted to do some star wars ones...I would do 5k and hubby 10k...but 10k is now sold out. If people do how do we go about grabbing one?

My husband grabbed an MCM one years ago off craigslist...granted he ran in the women's 50plus....he did great for that runner.

I would keep checking. If the challenge doesn’t sell out, RD will often separate those bibs and add 10k/half bibs. Or check with a TA who does bib sales.

Relatively few races, especially large ones, allow legal bib transfers. You just referenced one of the reasons that unsanctioned bib transfers are not allowed. They usually result in runners competing in inappropriate categories. Your best bet for finding a 10k bib at this point is to look for a travel agent or charity that still has them available.

Last time he ran like this was back before he could drink legally so that was over 10 years ago. So we have no clue of runs closing loopholes and stuff.

With regard to people "unofficially" or illegally transferring a bib to another runner: yes, it can really mess up things like age group awards, qualifying for other races (Boston, but other races have qualifying times too), and just in general is not a good idea. Some races will really crack down on it if they find out, and ban both the original bib owner and the person who ran it. There is even a guy (am I allowed to post his name/website here?) who has an entire blog dedicated to finding race cheaters, and will post about people who run with someone else's bib.

That I fully understand. I know MCM was a qualifier for some bigger ones even though MCM is a pretty big one. We were just wondering...but hearing the idea that a "possible" opening of more 10k type things might open up well its something. But i think it was more so my husband could keep up on his running after his half marathon in 2 weeks. It gave him motivation. But we understand the rules and all.

Travel agents and charities may have bibs for the 10K. Both come with hotel and ticket requirements (unless you have annual passes or DVC reservation or live locally).

Yea I am an AP, FL and military. so I don't generally book though anyone but me because of those things which normally i can get better deals. Yes I know a travel agent can do the military work for me....and as i sit here writing this....that might be my way. Thanks

TAs can usually waive the ticket requirements for runDisney packages as well for APs.

Thank you...now to find someone who might have a bib.....

It's not hard. All TAs have bibs for the 10K. Most in double-digit numbers. They're not waiving room or DVC requirements right now but are waiving the ticket purchase with proof of an AP. I don't think they can honor military rates though, so you're pretty locked in to the room rate for the resorts they're contracted with to book for a group.

This is good info...while my husband likes that military and all....but it never hurts to research and see what is being offered is something i always run on.

Even 10 years ago, I'm sure both you and your husband were aware that running as a 50-year old woman was not appropriate, especially since MCM very clearly offers an official bib transfer program.

I don't know since I don't really run...I might do my first 5k later this spring. I was just told he was running it and whatever. I just remember him saying something like that.

The other thing is what if your husband had some sort of medical issue on the course? Part of registering for races is listing your name, age and an emergency contact. If he had had some kind of medical event, they wouldn't have had that info for him...they would have had it for the person who had originally purchased the bib.

I'll echo everyone else in saying that your best bet is to keep checking the website and contact some TAs...especially as it gets closer to the race weekend, the TAs will be desperate to unload any remaining bibs they haven't sold yet. Good luck!

Our plan now is either wait it out or we are going to talk to a TA....or only I will be running the 5k. Again what he did years ago was YEARS ago. over 10 years ago. He is running the half marathon here in 2 weeks at disney and well it was more to help with his issues with work. We just trying to keep him motivated with issues with work and he thought i could do that easy...worst case is he won't run that weekend....but the other info about the TA and all is very helpful. This is the info I was looking for cause this upcoming run is his first run disney event let alone running like this again from over 10 years ago.

Could he do the Star Wars half, instead of the 10k? It looks like that still has registration available.
