Drop on Pirates vs. Drop on Splash Mountain

How does the drop on Pirates of the Caribbean differ from the drop on Splash Mountain? I'm talking the bigger drops. I just read on another site, in a link entitled "Anita Answer" (some of you I am sure read this too), that Splash Mountain's drop is actually only 6 inches longer than on Pirates...??

According to what I have read, I am allowed to bring my 14-month-old on Pirates but they have to be 40" minimum to ride Splash. Are you actually buckled in on Pirates? Is that why? Or is it the angle of the drop?

Is the drop scary on Pirates? This is my first time in years doing something with a big drop so I am nervous. I am planning to ride BTMRR too but I know that one has no big drops so I feel fine riding it!

It's not scary at all - and hardly a drop, very smooth and you don't get wet. Not dangerous at all. You are in a boat with several rows of people, about 4 people to a row.

I have never heard that it is almost as deep as Splash mountain - that is a shocker to me..

Length is not as important as angle, IMHO.

You can't even compare the two. The drop on Pirates is very short (though in the dark). You are not strapped in although you have a bar on the bench seat in front of you to hold on to if you feel the need.

Now the drop on Splash Mountain is huuuuuuuuggggeee. You are not strapped in here either & you do have a bar to hold onto. I wouldn't bring a 14 mo on Splash Mountain.

Wow, the drop on Pirates is almost nothing at all. The drop on Splash is considerable. I can't imagine that anyone (who had been on both) would even compare the two.

No way would I bring a 14 month old on Splash. My kids were 3 or 4 and I thought that was pushing it. But it must have been ok..........it's one of their favorite rides. I think they were at least 42". My son is has always been in the 95th percentile or higher for height.

Splash Mountain's drop angle is 45 degrees @ WDW.
PotC's drop is 21 degrees @ Disney land, so around the same at WDW.

Big difference!

About 35 feet difference.

Splash has an appx. 40 foot drop (4 stories)

Pirates has an appx. 5 foot drop.

Not that I've been over there with a measuring stick, but you get the idea. The drop on pirates is a mere bump compared to splash.

Well for one thing you would not be allowed to bring a 14 month old on Splash so that is not even a consideration.

To me you cannot compare the two drops. Splash Mountain is WAY bigger and steeper than the drop in Pirates of the Caribbean. The one in Pirates is way more calm and I have never gotten wet once from the drop.

There's absolutely no comparison in climb or speed of decent! Otherwise they would take your picture coming down from the POTC.

The drop on POTC is about 14 feet and at (I would guess) a 20 degree slope. The drop on Splash Mountain is closer to 50feet and at (I would guess) close to a 60 degree slope. I have read that on SM you end up going around 40 mph down that drop. Very different drops in the two rides.

Pirates has a decent drop, but not as big a whup as Splash. Neither of them is THAT big a deal, though. Pirates' drop is kind of cool because you don't know it is coming and it is in the dark. But it is mild as drops go.

If you really, really, hate-hate-hate drops, stay off of both.

You totally can't compare the two. I took my 14 month on Pirates and he ended up falling asleep every time we rode the darn thing LOL. I don't think you could take a 14 month on Splash even if you wanted to with the height restriction.

I read the Anita Answer article on the drops the other day. I'm wondering if there is a mix up...there is no way the drops are the same length. I understand that angle is important too, but Pirates' drop is nothing! Babies can handle it! They won't let babies on Splash.

Does anyone here think the drop on pirates is not as effective as it was before the POC II changes. It seemed darker and more intense to me prior to the renovation.

Sorry if anyone misunderstood me in my original post but I NEVER intended on taking my 14-month-old on Splash! In fact I am not even planning to take DS3 even if he is 40" at the time because I am uneasy about him not being strapped in. I will be taking him on BTMRR if he is tall enough. If not we will parent swap that one!

Thanks everyone for easing my mind about the angle of the drop. I know some people posted that the drop is actually shorter in length than stated on the website I saw, but supposedly that woman (in "Anita Answer") only answers people's questions based on facts about WDW. So I would think her lengths of the drops posted are accurate. But if the angle is only half of what it is on Splash that makes a huge difference!
