Drop off Charge???

What's up with Dollar Rental adding a drop off charge when returning to the airport?

I'm doing a one-way rental from Cape Canaveral in December and there is a $27 drop off charge.

Car rental $27.72
Taxes/fees $4.69
Total Mandatory fee $32.41
Drop off fee $27.00
Grand Total $59.41

Even with the drop off charge it's cheaper than anywhere else but, how can they charge a fee equal to the rental cost?

Easy. They do it to make money and make up for the inconvenience of getting the car back to the original rental point. All one way rentals cost more money than rentals with the same pick-up and drop off point.

That's not true....I'm doing the same rental going to the port and there is NO drop off charge and the rates are the same.

Are you using the same car rental agency? Different agencies use different rules.

I've found Dollar to be a little quirky with those 1-way delivery fees. When I first booked about a month ago, there was no charge, but when I checked recently to see if the rates were lower, the 1-way fee was an extra $150 (I'm dropping off in south FL).

Maybe it depends on how they want their cars distributed.

Part of it can depend on when you'll be driving the car. If it's at a time when the company wants to reposition cars there often isn't a drop off fee.

Who knows why the charge for a drop off from CC to OIA and not from OIA to CC. If I were the OP, I would call and ask why the drop off charge to OIA and not from OIA.
