drop drop time.

Depending upon the time of year, I plan to be at the gate for the park, not the TTC, 30 minutes to 1 hour before park opening. If it's a busy time, like xmas, then 1 hour minimum.

if it is a slower time I try to leave the hotel about an hour before park opening if a busy time 90 minutes early I will bring my breakfast with me and eat while waiting to get into the park

If you want to be ahead of the crowds then I'd aim to be standing at the gate 45min or more ahead of scheduled time

We always try to get on the bus 1 hr before the park opens. Depending on the park/resort that means we get to the park 30-45 minutes before park opening. Time strangely goes by super fast.

I never understood this. I'm not a morning person. 6 am is more of a late night vs an early morning.

That said, I would rather wait in line for 30 minutes for an attraction than 45 minutes to get into the park.

I think it amounts to waiting 30 minutes each for several rides versus waiting 45 minutes to get into the park and maybe 5 minutes or less each for several rides. To each his own though

Except it's not 45 minutes. The gates typically open 15-20 minutes before official opening time.

DHS, for example:

*At gates, 8:20AM
*Gates open, 8:30AM
*Internal rope drops, 8:45AM
*On & off TSMM by 8:55
*On & off RnRC by 9:20 (five minutes walk, ten to fifteen minute wait, five minute ride)
*On & off ToT by 9:45

Alternatively...
*Arrive DHS gates 9AM
*Through gates, arrive TSMM @ 9:10
*On & off TSMM (45 min wait, 5 minute playtime) @ 10AM
*On & off RnRC 11:10 AM (5 minute walk, 60 minute wait, 5 minute ride)
*On & off ToT @ 12 (5 min walk, 30 min wait, 15 minutes preshow/ride)

Same two sets of experiences, but leaving the hotel half an hour sooner saved me 2h15m. This means I can hit great movie, grab a leisurely TS lunch and be napping in my hotel room by 1. :) ...I like naps.

Nice!!!

Me: wake 11:00
Finish coffee by noon
Out of shower 1:00 pm
Poll bar by 2:00 pm
In park by 4:00 pm
Restaurant bar by 7:00 pm

Each to their own!! :D

I'm assuming the OP asked because she's planning to be at rope drop, not debating whether it's worth getting out of bed for.

We go over the summer. We plan to be in the parks about half an hour before they open. We tour like crazy until lunchtime, have lunch, and head back to the resort for pool/nap before returning for dinner.

If the gates open at 9. that typically means I'm up by 6:30, shower, get my husband and the kids up, then get coffee/ tea/whatever for everyone. We're at the bus/monorail stop by 8, at the park by 8:30.

That means I sleep 45 minutes longer than I chose to do today, so it's all good.

If I'm looking to be in a good spot at rope drop, I want to be parking my car an hour before posted opening time. A bit earlier for MK because of the trip from the TTC and the crazy bag check lines.

I agree! Maybe earlier during peak crowd times. I would add at least 20 minutes at MK especially during busy times to allow for the tram ride in from the parking lot, the ride on the ferry, and the bag check.

What time do you get to the parks for rope drop?

Depends on the park and what I plan on doing when I get there. AK and MK we usually get there about 20-30 minutes prior to rope drop. Hollywood Studios about 40 minutes prior to rope drop (if we plan on going to TSM). Epcot, about 20 minutes prior to RD if we're using the International gateway and at least 30 if we're using the front.

Last week we stayed at POR and all parks had scheduled 9am openings. We were at the bus stop by 730 every morning and arrived at the parks anywhere from 8-8:15. We were first in line at the tapstiles everywhere but MK, where we were only about 6 people back from the rope at Welcome Show.

I'd say 45 min-1 hour prior to stated park open is good. I've always had success this way.

I shut the parks down so I need my extra hour of sleep lol. I will do role drop once!

Do all parks have a rooe drop "show"?

Only MK has a show.

Sometimes ak does a little bird show but only MK has an official rope drop show

Never understood or don't agree?
Never understood.
I didn't grasp why one would stand that long in line just to beat a few minutes per ride in the early hours. It seemed like it wouldn't save enough time to make up for it.

That said, if people have put it to the test and say they can save a lot of time overall, than who am I argue?
