Droid vs Iphone

Both are sweet - you can't go wrong! If I had to choose though, I'd pick the iPhone. That way you have the largest selection of apps, Nike pacetimer, Facetime and an iPod all in one :)

I find Apple's refusal to support Flash truly mind-boggling. I have an iPod Touch and use it mostly for web surfing and I find not being able to view Flash content a real pain at times.

DS and I have Droids because Verizon didn't have Iphones at the time. I can't wait until next year when we can get iphones. We've had them less than a year and DS is having issues with his (power button won't work). I hate the qwerty keyboard and never use it. The keys are too small and hard to press.

I wanted to add that DH doesn't have an iPod (has no interest in one), doesn't have Facebook and doesn't care what kind of camera the phone has ~ he won't use it. LOL

He'll mainly be using the phone as a media device for work (check emails while traveling, etc) and calling, so for him, this phone will be a working device, not a toy. :)

If that's the case, he should go with a Blackberry.

I disagree--While Blackberry's were designed for "work", a Droid is MUCH more functional and a better phone. If it is comparable for his work software, I would go with a Droid. I had 3 different Blackberrys for my job and hated every one of them.

Blackberry keys are way too small for my fingers...and would be impossible for DH.

I would look at a Droid X then. In landscape mode (turning it on it's side) the keys are almost as large as a keyboard on a small laptop :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

oh yeah. I experienced ALOT of dropped calls with the iphone via at&t. My sis has the iphone with Verizon, same thing. She never complained when she had the blackberry with Verizon, now that she has the iphone with Verizon, her language is very colorful!:rotfl: I have the android with sprint LOVE it! I've had it for almost 6 months, and I'm very happy with it!

Contrary to popular opinion, it's not the network.

Not supporting Blu-Ray on any apple compter is more mind-boggling.

That's what you get with Apple. Great hardware but you lives with the whims of Steve Jobs.

That's so weird to me because we've had Verizon iPhones since the day they debuted and have yet to have a single dropped call.

We both LOVE our iPhones! Best decision we ever made... and I don't know that we'll ever go to anything else :)

I have a Droid X - came from Blackberry due to the restrictive functionality.

If your DH is going to use it primarily for business and Primarily for phone/email/calendar then I'd really suggest going BlackBerry...I know it wasn't ne of your selections, but it is the absolute best for "business" functionality.

The Droid X I have is very nice and I like it and all the features that go along with it...front facing camera would be nice for skype or video chats...however one thing to consider that I am surprised has not been mentioned here...or no one has experieinced the issue (it is a KNOWN issue in the android forums/community)...If you are using an internet service provider email (cablevision, comcast, time warner etc..) there is an issue sometimes (not often) with the data push that casues emails to be delayed or hung up in the phone - you will not know until you start receiving a bunch of emails that are 3-4 hours old, and any "critical" email that you have sent is not received or responded to in a timely fashion.

Now again this is a relatively minor inconvneience unless you are planning to use this for business (and not hooking up to an enterprise microsoft exchange server) or if like me you rely on your isp email for certain things like handling the scheduling emails for an entire youth hockey organization...when an email gets delayed for me that's a problem. Having been a BB user hitting send means it's sent...period...now I forced myself to cc myself on all correspondence so I KNOW for sure when I receive it that it truly was sent.

If your DH is planning on just using a Gmail account than it is NO problem at all. Some folks have used an app called K-9 to enhance their isp email experience, but I did not like the combining of email accounts into a single mail box (which is why I left BB in the first place).

As for calendaring and android phone will allow you to install multiple calendar widgets and specify between the 2 (business / personal).

Not an iphone fan due to some of the other things folks have mentioned...although no one mentioned the fact that you cannot get insurance on an iphone (the $6/month) version that you can get with just about ANY other phone you buy from Verizon anyway) and you can't replace the battery - or carry a spare battery in case you know you are going to use it all up and not have any ability to find a charger.

His company has their own network, so he wouldn't be using an "outside" provider. :)

But thanks for the information. So many things to consider!

Just to clear up an incorrect statement, you can seperate your e-mail boxes in a Blackberry. It's just an option.

I have two separate email boxes on my Droid X too.

The "push" issues as I see it is basically the phone going into sleep mode. It checks emails less frequently then but if you are using your phone, it is not an issue at all. Overnight, for example, my phone is on but it doesn't check the emails as frequently but when I get up and "use" the phone, it syncs and catches up. If I am using my phone through the day on a fairly regular basis, it keeps up just fine. Often my home emails pop up on my phone before they do on my computer (just depends on the sync cycle).

I would never buy a Blackberry. I have a company issued BB and a personal iPhone. Side by side, the BB looks so outdated, is slow, and is a pain to use.

My iPhone is awesome! Don't worry about it being a closed platform----that argument holds no water with me. I can get every app I need from the iTunes store and have never had an issue will malware or viruses in the 3 years I have had it.

I am an unapologetic Apple fan girl. My husband has a PC and it takes forever to boot, has to run anti-virus programs constantly and still gets infected. I just open my MacBook Pro and go! :snooty:

I love my Iphone! I've had one since they first came out and have had very few problems with it.
Apples ease of use (my friends 2 year old can open a play games with out instruction), customer service, and quality have won us over through the years.
We started with just one Iphone, now we have 2 Iphone 4's, a macbook, apple tv, my husbands getting the Ipad for fathers day, and we are getting a mac mini so we can drop cable. Slowly but surely I think we are buying the entire Apple store! Lol!
I've never experienced anything less than stellar customer service and support, and even if other devices had the same capabilities for less, I'd buy Apple products for the customer service and quality alone.
Kind of like I shop at Target even if Walmart has the same product for less. I guess I'm a customer service snob.
