driving?

hi my first post were away to orlando july 1st we cant wait,just a word on driving in america, what is there general driving style like aggresive or like here, sure this will be the first of many thanks

All I can say is I find driving in Orlando very easy, nice and relaxing.

You shouldnt have anything to worry about.

I love driving in Orlando but my DH is too scared! His problem is having to reverse everything in his mind. I find it easy (except in car parks - but then UK car parks confuse me too ).

Other drivers are courteous, mostly, and because it's OK to overtake in all lanes, you can pootle along in whichever lane you need (e.g. to be sure of not missing your turning) just so long as you aren't actually causing an obstruction.

As speed limits are generally slower, and the roads wider, it all feels very relaxed.

I only passed my test last June and I had no problems driving out in Florida I found the drivers to be a little more laid back and certainly not aggresive. It was a pleasure to drive out there.

LOL I just wish their indicators were orange like ours

I'm always the one that drives when we are in Florida. Driving is always laid back and easy going. Don't think I have ever encounted any of the aggresive driving that we get over here.

Fantasia Sam - I thought you had to have had a licence for 1 year before being allowed to drive (or was it getting insurance) in Florida? You certainly had to in 1996 when I first went.

I agree about the indicators! Very strange....

I would like to be able to drive there on our next trip, but because I am only 23 I am under age for the "normal" insurance and it will cost an extra £30 per day or something. Driving there is great I think most people are chilled obviously you still get the odd nutter, but thats the same everywhere!

When we were there last year my DH took his Florida drivers test. He passed straight away! Although you didn't have to go out onto the road and the practical test consisted of driving with the test guy around a car park in the test centre.

If you already have a license, it's pretty easy. They only put you out on the road if you're a brand new driver, or if the examiner has doubts.
