Hello
First timer going to Disney.
WE are driving down in April. My husband wants to drive straight through, does
anyone know how long it actually takes? any tips for driving there?

look a little further down on the posts to the thread: "Real driving distances from Toronto"...there was a good bit of information there, but if you still have questions I'd be happy to try & help.

We always drive straight through, and with 3 stops for food, and gas stops we average around 23 hours.

I was just comparing my notes from last year's trip to the maps I had done from the "Rand McNally Tripmaker" & the times are bang on. If you know of someone who has the program (often comes free with something else) you might want to consider giving it a try. If you enter your start time & how many hours you want to travel per day etc., it will tell you where to consider stopping & where you'll be at various times during your trip.

We tried the Buffalo route over the Windsor route for several reasons that I can remember:

1. taking the I79 is apparently shorter than taking the I75
2. after several discussions on this board last year it was determined that it was not as busy a route (because of the hills there are few trucks - unlike the I95 which has LOTS!!)
3. I think it takes you through fewer big cities

It was a beautiful drive (very scenic) and the traffic was great. The I81 & I95 drive from Ottawa is horrible (in my opinion) so it was nice to avoid it (you do get on the I95 for a while but only near the end of the trip - it seems to me that the more northern portion of the I95 is the worst).

I know the CAA TripTiks will send you down thru Windsor (if you're coming from the Toronto area) - not sure why...but the Buffalo route seemed to be the preferred route when discussed here last year. So we tried it & that's the way we'll be going again this year.

We're planning to leave Kitchener at 6am & stop in Orangeburg, SC at approx. 9:00 pm.

Hope this helps a bit. Feel free to ask if you have any more questions. We can hardly wait to leave...123 more days & counting. :)

We also cross over in Fort Erie and not Windsor. We find the drive to Windsor so boring, so we cross in Erie then work our way over to I-75. CAA trip tiks will map out whichever way you tell them you want to go.
