Driving vs Flying across the US border

We are planning our vacation for this December. We have not yet decided if we will drive the six hours to our nearest Canadian airport, or drive an additional couple of hours to the Minneapolis airport to fly from there (if the border ever reopens).
Does anyone know the different testing requirements necessary for each scenario? Do we need a test to drive to US and then another to get on a US flight? My head is dizzy trying to figure this out.

Should add that we are vaccinated parents travelling with two unvaccinated children (due to age). Not sure if that matters in regards to testing.

I don't think they've set out any testing requirements yet because they aren't allowing land border crossing for non essential yet into the USA.

We too are anxiously awaiting to see if we can drive across and fly out of Minneapolis ourselves!

Assuming they don't change the rules between now and then with regard to testing... [note: this could be a dangerous assumption to make; it is not known what rules may be put in place once the land border is opened to non-essential travelers].

Currently

A covid-19 test is not required to enter the US via a land border. It is required for travelers arriving by air into the US.

A covid-19 test is not required for domestic air travel wholly within the "lower 48" states.

CDC "Requirement for Proof of Negative COVID-19 Test or Recovery from COVID-19 for All Air Passengers Arriving in the United States" : https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/testing-international-air-travelers.html

This waiting to see if the US border opens is the worst! Flights are so much cheaper from MSP, yet I have seen the prices of Canadian flights rise daily for this trip with it being over Christmas. Not sure if I can wait for an August 21 announcement, if there is one. Ahhh the impatience!
