Thinking of flying into Vegas to check it out for 2 nights (Mon & Tues end of June), then drive on down to Anaheim (early am to beat the traffic:confused3 welcome ALL suggestions of a departure time:) )
Decided to skip drive to GCanyon, was thinking Hoover Dam instead. Anyone know how long it would take from "central" strip area?

Wondering how long the drive would be from McClaren to hotel mid day?

Are we crazy to consider driving in Vegas or to Anaheim, considering we're not comfortable in busy multi-lane interstate driving?

Vegas - central strip to hoover damn isn't a bad drive. I can't remember how long but not much more than 1/2 hour. There's parking just past the damn and you can walk down and check it out. It was pretty neat. As far as driving to anaheim. I would not recommend driving in the am. LA Traffic is a pain in the butt. I used to commute from apple valley to LA and the freeway was crowded at 6am. I recommend going in the late morning/afternoon or night. Reverse commute. Hope that helps.

If I remember correctly, its about 60 - 90 minutes to Hoover Dam.

Well worth the trip, I think........

It's 38 miles from Las Vegas east to Hoover Dam. I'd say about an hour with traffic. Then you would have to go back west to I-215, near Henderson, and then I-15 to Anaheim. I wouldn't get a car to use while in Vegas, depending on where you stay, but pick it up the morning you are going to Hoover Dam and Anaheim. Be sure to check with the rental car company for drop off charges if you pick up a car in one state and leave it in another. I've seen them range as high as $200 to nothing, depending on the company. HTH.

i priced out a 2 day rental yesterday picking up @ mcClaren & dropping off on Katella somewhere; over $200 for a midsized:eek: ; do have 1 free day from a promo so that helps the cause.

never heard of "apple valley" is that in LasVegas? sounds pretty

So what time would be the best time on a weekday to head out to Anaheim to avoid traffic? 9 or 10 am-ish?:)

I did the Vegas Strip to Hoover Dam drive on a Sunday morning (no traffic) in about 45 minutes, It was very easy, although it seemed like a much longer drive on the way back for some reason.

I agree to check on drop off charges. Many years ago Hertz wanted over $1000 in drop off charges when I rented a car near Washington, DC and tried to drop it off in South Carolina. It ended up costing less to just drive back to DC and fly back to SC on a walk-up ticket!

We don't rent a car in Vegas, just too much traffic and we usually stay at our hotel. The monorail is great for getting around parts of the strip, and cabs are everywhere.

I've never found Hoover Dam to be that exciting, but that is just me! I don't care much for heights. I think there are tours that go from the strip to the dam, so you would not HAVE to rent a car.

The drive from Vegas to Anaheim can be a bit busy depending on time of day and if it is a holiday or weekend. Many people love the drive, many do not. If you do not want to drive on interstate highways and don't like traffic, the LA to Anaheim portion of the trip will be very stressful. You may want to look at flights from LV to Orange County airport, then a shuttle to Disneyland.

Enjoy!

Apple Valley is a city in San Bernardino (or Riverside, I can't remember) County in CA, about 90 minutes from Disneyland.

You will be coming in against traffic for the most part but try to have yourself in Anaheim around 3pm That means you should leave no later than 10am.

thanks, was thining most peeps would be headed to Vegas for the weekend, appreciate the timing

I live in Las Vegas at the far west side of town and it takes me 30 - 40 min. to get the the dam. When we go to Disneyland we usually leave around
9:30ish and get to our hotel by 2:00 at the latest, with a stop for lunch thrown in there. It is not to bad of a drive and you get there early enouph to get a good amount of time in at the park. Especially with the longer summer hours in June when you are going.
