We are leaving the Mission Beach area of San Diego on the Tuesday after President's Day and driving to DL. How long should this trip take?

We would like to arrive early enough to check in at the GC and be there for the park opening, which is at 10:00 a.m., and I've heard about that Southern California traffic.

What time should we leave? Will there be a lot of commuters traveling in the same direction?

Just want to plan in advance!

Thanks you for any suggestons or advice!:D

I'll be doing the same thing, only driving from La Jolla. I'll be interested in any replies you get!

<font color=navy>I would leave anywhere between 7:30 and 8:am. Normally it's about an hour and a half drive, but I'd add another 30 minutes or so for morning traffic. It shouldn't take longer than that.

Take the 5 north, and stay on the 5 - you'll run right into the Disneyland Resort from there.

We have done this drive many times and normally it is 90" but depending on the traffic, it could take longer.

How does this compare with the drive from Carlsbad? We are spending a week in Carlsbad and plan to take a 3 day side trip to DL. We are going the week after Easter (Tues)so DL opens at 8:00AM. I have been trying to decide if we want to try to leave by 5:30 or 6:00AM or just do DCA on our arrival day(opens at 10:00). I have never been to So. California, so all advice is greatfully accepted.

Also what would be the best time to drive back to Carlsbad on a Thursday evening?

njmomof2: From Carlsbad, it is just about an hour up to Disneyland. Depending on the time of day you go it could be more. I haven't experienced too many long delays in all the trips I've taken up there. The biggest delay is usually at the checkpoint north of Camp Pendleton. (but then, it's not always open)

As for coming home, I've driven back at one o'clock, 3 o'clock, five o'clock and later and haven't run into any major traffic at any time.

Remember, if you have your family with you (or just one other person!) you can use the car pool lanes. Use them!!

I wouldn't worry too much about getting there at the stroke of opening, if I understood you to say you will be up at Disneyland for three days. You should have plenty of time to see and experience everything that you want. (don't forget to use fast passes!)

Enjoy life and great vacations!
Chris
