If you stop to sleep every night (can't drive in the dark ), what is a realistic driving time from Toronto to Orlando?

Most times you're looking at about 20 hours driving time... so really about 2 days.

I know that when my Dad drove it recently down 75 he made Atlanta on the first day (but he left really early in the morning... like 1AM).

In your situation I'd think you could probobly make Kentucky/Tennesee in the first day and then into the Worl don the second. My advice would be to plan on leaving 2 days before your trip and not book the second hotel, depending on how far you get the first day if you think you'll make it to the World you can call ahead and see about extending your res to accomadate the extra night (rather than say getting in really late and wasting a day of your stay). If you don't think you'll be in until really late (or early the next mornign) just do a quick call around to other hotels in the area.

We've found that the trip is around 21 hours door to door. Since you are limited to driving during the day the time of year will control how many days the trip will take. We take the 79/77 route. In estimating our trips I assume that I can travel 100km per hour inclusive of stops. The time for stops are covered by the higher speed limits found in most of the US. If you build some trial routes using one of the map sites you should be able to figure out where you might want to stop.

When my family and I drive from Toronto to WDW or to Clearwater Beach we do things a bit different. Since we take Interstate 75 we drive all the way to Cleveland, Tennessee on our 1st day of driving. Now on our 2nd day instead of arriving around 6:00 PM or 7:00 PM to WDW or Clearwater Beach, we drive to Valdosta, Georgia to spend the night and would arrive in Florida the next day at an earlier time.

When we go, we always take 2 1/2 days - which means two sleeps along the way. We leave on the first day at around 5-6 a.m. and drive until 5:00 p.m. Eleven hours of driving gets us to Corbin, Kentucky, taking the 1-75.

The second night we usually stop in Tifton, Georgia and then the next day with only a 3-hour drive, we are in Disney.

I do stop quite a bit as my mum is a bit older and I like her to get out of the vehicle and stretch her legs every so often.

Thanks for the suggestions. We are only scoping this now since airfares are so steep. We would be going late November, early December.

We drive from London straight through down I75 (except we cross the border in Sarnia first because I like that border better). It's pretty much a 24 hour trip including stops.

At the time of year you are thinking of going you are looking at around 10 hours of daylight a day. So if you don't want to drive in the dark at all then you will need two overnight stops and the last day you should only have a few hours of driving to do before you get there.

When we drove it took us 2.5 days. We would leave at dawn the first day and drive until 6pm for two nights. We would arrive at the world around 2 the third day.

Quick math that means 5 days out of your vacation is spent in the car. Once I checked into buffalo airport prices we stopped driving. I know the deals out of buffalo are not as great anymore but a flights can still be found for $99 one way.

I recently drove from Windsor which is a little closer, but I had 3 kids with me (DS10,DS3 and DS3months) so I had to take my time. We stayed in Cleveland, TN the first night and stopped in Tifton, GA the 2nd night. Our 3rd day of driving was a short trip from Tifton to Orlando and we felt pretty well-rested. If you stay in Tifton, GA I highly recommend the Comfort Inn right off I-75 (I can't remember what exit). It's brand new with beautiful rooms and pretty reasonable room rates. It was our favourite hotel of the whole trip. On the way home we stopped in Macon, GA and Cincinnatti, OH.

My suggestion for a great Hotel for the night would be a Hampton Inn if there is one located in the city you wish to stay at. Their rooms are always very clean and their continental breakfast each morning is also very good.

We drive yearly to WDW
We do the 79/77 Route and usually do it in 18-22 hours
When we do stop we usually stop in Beckley WV

This is very close to the Virginia border and there are pleant of Hotels there
Stayed at a Country Inn with awesome conti for around $65
