My friend and I will be driving from Kansas to WDW in a couple weeks. We are going to be coming down to Orlando from Atlanta. Whenever I look up directions, it says that Florida has tolls. I am wondering for those of you who have driven to WDW from there, how much of Florida is toll roads? Is it only in the Orlando area? How much money should I have ready to spend on the tolls? Any info would be greatly appreciative!

it is not astronomical. I think we spent a couple dollars each day that we drove into Disney from our hotel. However, you can avoid the tolls if you take a little longer route. i think the toll is worth the convenience.
be aware, there are several kinds of toll roads around the area. Sunpass is different than EZPass, so don't go flying through a SunPass with your EZpass device :)

I put a roll of quarters in the car before I leave home. That's more than enough.

Thanks for the info. We are excited to be doing a road trip. We are still young and thought this would be something fun to do. How periodic are the toll roads?

we always drive, too. I like the flexibility.
there is a toll on 417, and another one to get into Disney property. I feel like they are pretty frequent when you get into the Orlando area, but I am really not sure exactly. hopefully a Florida resident will pipe in, i am not very much help here :)
I wonder if there are toll maps available?
I would get an EZ pass before you travel, they are easy to order. then, carry some quarters like @Alesia mentioned, and you should be good to go! just pay attention to which tolls are which with the EZ pass.

Thanks! I was finally able to find a website that helped me and I priced my toll at about $3.00-$3.40 and it told me where the tolls began and ended. Thanks very much for your help!

I take that you are taking Hwy 75 from Atlanta

Via Valdosta Then into Florida .... Lake City ...... Ocala

Then Join Hwy 27 to Leesburg To Clermont

THEN STAY on Hwy 27 Till you see Disney singpost For Hwy 192 ( or Stay on 27 till Hwy I- 4 )

There are NO Tolls on this Route.

Forget Sun Pass for Toll Roads if you travel Outside of Disney area

Just use Cash Pay Booth on extream Right Lane

Rental at Orlando airport to Disney area then Daytona.. Will quarters be all I need or do I need to buy an ez pass and or Sun Pass. Not interested in paying rental car company 100 plus dollars to use theirs for 2 weeks.

All you need is CASH ...... JUST Follow Right Lanes .... Painted Yellow Marked CASH Lanes

Follow Green Light to Open Cash / Receipt Booth Usually Extreme Right Lane

What is wrong in waiting a few moments ( out of your Vacation Time) in a Q to Keep a person in a Job .

So far, SunPass readers in Florida do not read E-ZPass transponders.

The U.S. Congress has set October 2016 as the deadline for various toll systems' transponders and readers to interoperate with each other, just as E-ZPass and and Illinois I-PASS have been compatible for years.

Also, mainline toll plazas in Central Florida provide the option of attended "Change Receipts" lanes. You do not need quarters. There are some entrances and exits at smaller roads that require coins or SunPass (occasionally SunPass only), but the OP entering Florida's Turnpike from I-75 and exiting to a freeway in Orlando can use paper money and can get a receipt.

There is No need to take the Turnpike just take I -75 & then join Hwy 27
U.S. Highway 27 is less direct, has traffic signals, and has sections with lower speed limits. U.S. Highway 27 is likely to add close to a half hour to the driving time.

I'd rather pay a few dollars in tolls.

But.... Sunpass and E-Pass are interchangeable. EZ-Pass is not.

I'll be on the road for 18 hours in two days, and by the time I get near the Orlando area, I'm going to want to get to WDW as soon s possible. Right now, the fastest route is showing to go south on 75, go over on the 91 (toll), and then go on 429 or go to the 4. The toll will only cost me about $3-$3.50 which will be perfectly fine with me.

Exactly. And tourists poking along without a clue are likely to get a far from Disney-esque gesture from locals trying to get to work or do their errands. take the Turnpike to the 429 and pay the extra couple dollars in tolls to get there faster and with a far less chance of being in (or causing) an accident.

Take the 429 - it is also a toll but definitely better than getting on I-4.

that is great to know! I thought they were all their own thing. We have EZ pass, and were frustrated it did not work on all the roads.

E-Pass(FL) and EZ Pass are two different things. Right now your EZ Pass will not work in FL.

O.K. Take the 429

Then you have 2 choices

( A ) Take turn off for Hertzog Road ... which brings you straight to Disney ...... And Hwy 192

( B ) Stay on 429 .... ( Bypassing A ) and join I-4 and follow Disney Signs
