we are doing I-75 straight down from the Windsor Ontario Canada area. the girls are all excited about driving down so I think that's what we are going to do. I have heard from a few other thread that there is alot of people cancelling their trip...I guess I'm gonna have to start a thread and see who has cancelled out.

best of luck and keep us informed...

We are leaving in 7 days and after the increase in gas prices, we decided to look at flights. We got round-trip tickets for $80 through Southwest....we decided that we couldn't beat that. We are now flying...and looking forward to Magical Express!

Even with the price of current gas prices, we don't leave till March so we are still going to drive.

Originally we were going to drive, but a few months ago found airline tickets for $173.90. They usually run around $220.90 out of DFW, so we decided to fly. With the gas situation like it is I'm glad we changed our minds.

I spoke with a CM from Orlando yesterday and she said she had paid $2.95/gallon yesterday morning and there were a few stations that were closed, but most were open. We are paying $3.05/gal here in East Texas.

Funny thing is, I checked airline prices two nights ago for my Dec trip and American Airlines had dropped from $260.90 to $213.90 from about 10pm to 7am. I went ahead and bought them for my Dec trip, even though I had wanted to wait until after my Sept trip. I just checked them again and they're back up to $260.90.

As normal my early December trip will be a drive. Mostly because I carry so much stuff. But I have already planned on revising my driving routine. In the past it was a 1am full speed blast from Cincinnati to Orlando. My milage at 82 mph is really bad but at 70-72 is 25% more. This year taking a half day off on Friday and setting the cruise control at a slower pace. Plan to stay overnight in north Florida and pull in to Orlando early Saturday rested and less frazzled.

This is our family's first trip to WDW - DD(3) first trip - my 10th, DW's 2nd. Hope we can get gas on the way down tonight.

Hello to a fellow Newnanite--Hope you can get gas and have a wonderful trip!!

We leave Sept 25 - early o'clock- and are still planning on driving.
pros of driving:
-there are six of us so driving is still cheaper

-my neices have never been anywhere so they will get to see alot on the drive

-by driving, we will arrive mid afternoon to evening allowing us 1/2 a day to unwind at the POP pool or go to DTD

cons of driving:
-there will be six of us in the van

- there are two tropical depressions brewing and if it affects gas prices we won't be able to afford to drive to work let alone DW!

-there will be six of us in the van

-there will be six of us in the van

I had to chuckle at your post after so many trips to DW with six of us in the van. Portable DVD players are wonderful things. We started with a VHS player in a couple of vans, then switched to the DVDs last year. I usually make them wait until after our first meal (usually about four hours from departure) to turn it on. After that it gets much quieter. :earsgirl:

Hello fellow Georgian. I was born in LaGrange not to far from your Hometown. We will be driving down tomorrow. Hope you have a great trip and a safe one and you find what you need. Just start looking for stations when you hit around 1/2 tank etc. If the stations have a 10.00 limit like some at least that amount will get you down the road. Have fun :sunny:

At this point, I would rather fly, but with a small amount of uncertainty existing in regards to the supply of jet fuel, I hesitate to make the change in plans. I hate not knowing what the right answer is. Gabby hates to fly, she is just certain that she will die in a plane crash. She is so wigged out about it that she has to be medicated if she flies. If we fly, it also robs her of a day and a half of time with her family. The plus side would be that we could spend an extra day at Disney and still come out cheaper than our current plans. I don't know!!!! :confused3 :earseek: Maggie

Indigoxtreme,

Small world. I met someone else on the board from Newnan today, and talking with others in my predictament. I only need to fill up on the way down and once on the way back - but will the disney buses be running? Been looking forward to the Disney magic (first vacation in over a year due to finishing lawschool and the bar exam) - and my daughters first trip. Everything ok in Gainsville?

I think it will be harder to drive to Disney World and back, but I don't see it getting so bad that it will paralyze the country. I would not wait til the gas tank says Empty, either. I would fill up more often, especially if, the price is good.

I have a friend who left from here (Knoxville TN) last night. They have two very young daughters (under 3) and she said she wasn't worried about price itself but availability...
