Driving to WDW from out of state

We drive from MS, so it’s, essentially, I-10 then I-75 to the turnpike.

Despite road construction tapering off, the last couple trips have been rough on either I-75 or the turnpike. It’s was worse in the opposite direction each time.

I’ve been tinkering with Waze and Google Maps trying to find a viable alternative but I can’t make them completely avoid I-75. I’ve been trying to look at other routes west of I-75, but the map apps just don’t want to work with me.

Has anyone tried another route when coming in from the northwest? Hwy 98 looks like it could be reasonable, unless there are a lot of traffic lights I’m not seeing.

I used Mobile as the destination because I didn't know where in MS you'd be going. Google shows Dayton - Jacksonville then I10 adding an hour 15.

This uses FL-429, Turnpike, and FL-44 W:

ETA: Oops, went the wrong direction. Should still be close. I've found Google does a decent job of estimating traffic. And it will depend on when you're traveling too.

Any of the non-interstate highways that run through small towns or cities are going to have traffic lights. You aren’t going to make better time than driving the interstate provided there are no accidents on the interstate. That being said, 98 is no worse than any other option. When you get to Perry you can either continue on 98 or pick up 27 south which will take you all the way to Hwy 192 and the WDW main entrance. You could also continue on I-10 to Lake City and pick up 41 south, and at Williston you can switch to Hwy 27.

I would just try different routes online (Google Maps, AAA if a member, etc.) and see what looks the most appealing to you.
