We are frequent visitors from the UK to WDW and are thinking of traveling over on our next visit for a few weeks. We also love NYC for a couple of nights (and this is a good flying option from the UK).

Has anyone driven from NYC to WDW? If so - how long does it take and what are the sites/places to see on the way down? And nice stop overs for a night or so? Is it an easy drive?

Thanks

Haven't done NYC to WDW, but I've done Pennsylvania to WDW and DC to WDW as well as DC to NYC and CT. And some mid-west states to WDW, but that doesn't really apply here. Basically you hop on 95 south and drive until you hit Daytona Beach then take 4. It isn't a terrible drive. Except when you pass through cities at rush hour- that is never fun. You'll hit Philly, Baltimore, DC, Richmond at the very least. Depending on how long you want to take you can stop in DC for a day or two. That's only a couple hours outside of NYC. We always stop at South of the Border. It's a kitschy Mexican themed rest stop in South Carolina. Some people don't like it, but it's a family tradition for us. Stop, restroom break, get ice cream, fill up the car, then keep on going. I think there's an arcade and restaurant there, too. Plus there's signs counting down how many miles are left until you get there and that's always fun. There's also Savannah, GA, which has some very pretty parts.
There's some websites that can help plan a road trip, too. We used Furkot when we were planning our move from DC to Louisiana. Roadtrippers looks more user friendly when it comes to finding interesting things to do on the road.
Editing to add: Some roads have tolls. 95 in Jersey does. I think I bypassed PA when I was going home from CT so I didn't pay any tolls there, but PA does have toll roads. So that's something to remember, too.

We do this all the time (once sometimes twice a year). We do fly here and there but I hate/afraid of flying. We have stopped in VA (5 mins. from DC) to visit my sister but it is still a long way down. It's a nice stop on the way up. One needs to try to avoid rush hour in DC.

We started stopping overnight in Jacksonville with only a few hours left to Disney. We stop a hundred times for restroom breaks (and of course breakfast/lunch, etc.). We usually leave around 3 am. If you really want to stop at one or two places for more than a few hours to explore, plan on staying overnight two nights on the road.

Are you flying out of Orlando to get back home or driving back up to NYC? It does not matter - I am sure you will be staying at least a week at WDW. Would not drive from NY and stay less than 7 nights. For us anyway.

Prob going Orlando for about 3 weeks if possible. How long is the total drive to w WDW?

Hi -Our drive from southern central NY (an hour north of NYC) is about 18-19 hours. we usually do one long day and 2 half days. Construction along the highway that we typically take is an issue and there is often serious congestion.

For us in Staten Island - it's almost 1100 miles - about 15/16 hours (if driving straight through) more or less. ( No accidents, construction, etc.)
