Driving to Universal

Sunday morning is the absolute best time to drive in Los Angeles, the city doesn't wake up until 11am.

So are we saying that on weekdays it is best to:

(1) take I-5 N toward Los Angeles;
(2) take the CA-134 W/Ventura Fwy toward Ventura;
(3) take exit 1D for Cahuenga Blvd toward Hollywood;
(4) head south on Cahuenga Blvd toward Cumpston St;
(5) and turn left at Lankershim Blvd.

AND that on Sunday, we can go ahead and take US-101 N
(Hollywood Fwy) through Los Angeles, with no problem?

What about Saturday morning (8/9ish AM)?

YES!
Driving through Downtown on a Saturday or Sunday morning is almost driving through a ghost town (depending on the time). You may get a little bit of traffic around Downtown itself (which can be considered the Hollywood/Harbor Freeway intersection), but once you get past this point, it is clear sailing to USH.

BTW, I have lived in Los Angeles for 46 of my 47 years (and I have always worked in the Downtown area), and a majority of it was around the Downtown/Silverlake area, so I know my Downtown traffic pretty well.
