My family will be in Disneyland from January 29-Feb. 3. We fly into LA, but will be flying out of San Diego. Our flight home leaves San Diego at 1:15 p.m. Feb. 4th.

Question: if we were to stay in Anaheim the night of Feb. 3rd, how bad will traffic be trying to drive from Anaheim to San Diego to catch our flight? We're trying to decide if we need a hotel in San Diego or just drive down early the morning we leave.

Any thoughts?

February 4th is a Sunday so it's possible that you would not have traffic issues. It only takes one bad accident to royally mess up that drive however because there is one major freeway going south with few other good options. Plus it's a relatively far distance (about 2 hours with no traffic). If you do this, I would plan to leave no later than 8:00am to be on the safe side.

Traffic can be brutal on the 5 on weekends but it usually starts getting nasty later in the morning. Especially around Oceanside. But as long as nothing biblical happens, 8am should be ok but I'd suggest 730 to play it safe. You don't need to go to San Diego to get a hotel, but if do, be sure to go to Phil's Barbecue. Best ribs on the planet.
