Driving to Notre Dame????

Anyone out there know if it is better to drive there by way of South side of Chicago or take 31 N ????????????????????????????????????????

We will be coming from Arkansas...any help would be great!

I live just an hour or so south of South Bend and I would avoid Chicago as much as possible. DH was in Chicago last week and the construction was horrible.

However, I don't have a map in front of me. What 2 routes are you planning? Would the Chicago route be less miles or have more high speed highway driving? Driving US 31 thru Indy will take you thru lots of populated areas and could slow you down considerably.

Option 1-Take 57 North to 80 East towards 294 then to 31.

Option 2- Take 57 North to 50 East to 31 North all the way up.


Not sure which to do????

Can you take 65 to the Indiana Tollroad then you get off at ext 77 and at the light turn right (after you exit) then at Jefferson (I believe) make a left. You cannot miss the miss the gate to Notre Dame. (our you can catch 31 from I65 if I remeber correctly but it involves the bypass in Indy)

Are you going to a game or dropping off a new student?

My DH's family is in South Bend-I met DH when I went to Notre Dame for a wedding so I am a bit fond of the school

My MIL has taken the I 65 going to Arkansas (she was born in Huntsville I think) and visits TONS.

AVOID CHICAGO AND NW IND..Traffic is horrible-I mean make you cry bad. Also 31 runs through the city and will take longer with lights and all that

I'm in Indy and we are in Northern Indiana/Chicago/SB frequently. You are much better off taking 31 than any option that goes near Chicago - even if you have to go through or around Indy. I65 to the toll road is too far out of your way to the west and gets into the Chicagoland traffic.
