Driving to JFK airport from NJ-how bad is it?

Have to fly to Tampa in January. Cheapest fare is on Song from JFK. Hubby absolutely refuses to consider driving there and car service is too expensive. We live 15 min. from Newark airport. Has anyone from this area driven to JFK? How long did it take and how bad was it? TIA.

The ride is not that depending on the day and time. I also live 15 minutes from newark. I left on a sunday morning, took 80 to GWB to Major Deegan to Triboro to Grand Central to Van Wyck to JFK. It took 1 hour door to door. Coming back it took 2 1/2 hours on monday afternoon due to construction on Van Wyck, Yankee Game traffic exiting the stadium, then normal rush hour traffic. So, just be sure to time it right. The parking and terminal for Song is very easy there.
