Driving to hhi from cincinnati

!apquest says to go 75 to Knoxville, 40E to 95 to 268. Does that seem right or is there a shorter way?

I am looking at Mapquest, since we leave for HHI from Cincy mid-June. MQ is telling me to take I75 to I40 to I26 to I95 to US278 to resort. Route calculates to 10 hours and 54 minutes...680 miles.

Agree! We joined DVC while on the Wonder in Alaska last June. Had our first stay at AKV (home resort) - Kidani just before Christmas. Fell in love with that place. Now trying HHI for Father's Day week, and a couple more days at AKV/Jambo b4 our 7-night Eastern at the end of July.

Kickin' myself for waiting 5 years to join....

we too are ohio dvcers SSR home, tried HHI and fell in love you will too. Story is HHI was heavily developed and marketed to those from OHIO as it was a 1 day drive. Resort is incredibly relaxing, CMs are the best of any DVC. So great we bought resale there. Go to HHI at least once per year. Give thanksgiving a try, great time of year to be in HHI, especially from NE OH.

Wow! That's a lot of cruising! We have never cruised before....are you using points?

No, not using points...on the first cruise in '05, we just enjoyed the vacation so much that we made it an annual "father and son Father's Day" tradition. It was through cruising that we ended up purchasing in DVC.

This year is kind of ironic...we'll be at HHI during Father's Day, but will be cruising at the end of July with a family from Chicago who finally persuaded me to think seriously about DVC. We sailed with them in 2009 and to Alaska last year as well. We're also meeting up with a family from Oklahoma City who we also met on that 2009 cruise (a three family "cruise reunion").

While on board, we have been taking advantage of the rebooking promotions (10% discount plus onboard credits).

I think I read in another post that you're leaving for HHI this weekend. If that's correct, enjoy your time down there. We're "foodies", so we plan to eat at Robert Irvine's restaurant "Eat!", as well as a day trip to Paula Deen's place in Savannah. The rest of our vacation will likely be in a food coma....

Food has been the best part of vacation, lol! We heard Wilkes in Savannah is better than Paula's, so we plan on trying that! Orchid from food network star owns One Hot Mamas, so that's on our list too!!!

Without a doubt, our favorite was Alaska. My son is a bit on the "stubborn" side. At age 16, he was saying that he'd only cruise Alaska "on Disney"...for the service, not because of the characters. So I took a vaca day the morning that we were able to book, and got my slot for Alaska. It did NOT disappoint!

Our excursions were: a sleddog summer camp, a train ride along the gold rush route (and panning for gold), and an offroad 4x4 adventure. The scenery is indescribably beautiful...and the menu options were adjusted a bit to a more "seafood" flavor, which was fine by us.

We haven't had a bad cruise yet, and we do enjoy the "warm" stops and excursions of the Caribbean...but none compare to what we experienced in Alaska!

Thanks for the advice on the other restaurants. Hopefully you can post a review when you get back, and before we leave. Didn't know about "One Hot Mamas", so will definitely add that one!

That route will add a couple of hours to the trip and you'd need to go thru Atlanta. We always take I-75 south to Knoxville, I-40 to Asheville, I-26 to I-95 and south to (exit 8) Rt 278 onto HH. There is no reason to go thru Charlotte.

I wish I knew the answer (regarding a good overnight spot). We have family in the Greeneville, TN area, and will be staying overnight in that area. It leaves us with about 6 hours of travel the next day, but we'll be seeing relatives that my son (19) hasn't even met yet.

I am another happy (and excited!) DVC 'er from the Cincinnati area~ can't wait to leave for HHI tomorrow This vacation has been a long time coming and can not wait to just get there to relax! Hope to see some other DVC friends there- especially my fellow Buckeyes!
