Driving to DW this year, have a hotel ??

We are probably going to drive to Disney this year unless I can get a great deal on airfare. We have not done any long distance driving in YEARS!!! We live about 17 hours away from Disney. Due to the time we are leaving (1:00 TO 2:00PM) we may have to stop for the night. Anyway, if we don't make hotel reservations, can we drive until say midnight then find a hotel along the road? Will any have the office open that time of night? I know years ago we could drive until you wanted to stop and find a hotel pretty much open anywhere, but not sure it is still that way today! Hope this all makes sense!!

Hello neighbor, we hail from Clinton, IL!

We are driving down this April/May. After many hours on Google maps and numerous hotel sites, as well as taking into account our endurance level (we're in our early 50's), we decided to stop in Tipton, GA.

But... found a better price by stopping 30 miles earlier in Cordele, GA at the Country Inns and Suites. With tax $66, includes a GREAT hot breakfast. We're actually headed first to Jacksonville for a cruise before heading to WDW, but I think this will be out stop on future trips also.

Getting a good night rest before the final leg of the trip to WDW is very important to us. Plus remember we transition to Eastern time zone, so you loss an hour on the drive.

Thanks for the info. You'll have to let me know how you like the hotel when you get back. Totally forgot about the time change! Glad you mentioned it! Forgot about it when doing all this planning. I'll have to take that into account!!!
