Apologies if this gets posted twice - posted and the computer crashed .. can't find the post so think it may not have made it to the boards before the puter crashed !

Anyway ... we are driving to DLRP this April from Calais and wondered if there are any "quicker" routes or tips and tricks that can help us on our way to meet with Mickey .. had a look at the driving resource link but it is general info rather than specific info when driving from calais.

If anyone has ever driven from there and wouldn't mind sharing a few tips etc it would be appreciated .... best route, places to stop (if we have to !!) etc.

We are staying at the Cheyenne - will we get directions to this hotel or will we have to use a route planner to find this out ?

I'm sure someone will direct you to a thread with directions on, since I know I've seen one, but just wanted to say if you have Sat Nav check the route carefully - ours tried to take us via Brussels! The route on the Via Michelin site was a much better route.

We've always taken the toll rolls as they are the quickest. TomTom on the last trip gave us a bit of extra reassurance but the Via Michelin is where we have taken the route from previously.

Regarding stops they are all nice and clean so we haven't yet picked a favourite :)

DH top tip is beware that the exit near CDG airport is a real pain! If you go to this website http://www.viamichelin.com/viamichelin/int/tpl/hme/MaHomePage.htm
you can print a route map off along with all the signs that you need to follow. We found this really useful last time.

We've only ever stopped twice on our first two trips and that was only a toilet break. What we saw of the French services they were very clean but Dh just said beware the coffee is very strong!

The last two trips we're just drive straight from Calais to Disney which took about 3 hours (for some reason DH always drives faster in France than he does in the UK - the kids tell him he drives like an old woman in this country:rolleyes: ).

The thing that we found tricky was that French motorway exits are not all numbered, it seems, so it is not easy to say "exit at Junction 12" because you come across Junction 11 and then the following junction is not numbered, or is numbered 11.1 and you get confused. Also when the road splits (as it does after CDG airport) it can split from the outside lane as well as from the inside lane. It is best, we found, to have one driving and one trying to read the motorway signs and giving instructions.

Driving is easy if you stick with the toll roads. The past couple of times I have used our sat nav no problem before that we had a route from the AA site (I think) it is a great to have as a back up.

Just a word of warning watch as you leave the ferry ports as there is a fixed speed camera, there not as obvious as the ones in the UK and also be careful of your speeds on the motorways as they can calculate how fast you have gone between the tolls, hence why it is not uncommon to see the police sitting at the tolls.

Good advice as the on the spot fines could put a grey cloud over a DLP holiday :)

Thanks for all the advice :)

What is the speed limit in France ?
It varies up to a maximum of 130 Km/Hr on toll roads. The speed drops down to 110 Km/Hr when it rains, which is an excellent idea :thumbsup2

You'll also notice when you take the exit of the motorway the sliproad will have reducing speed limit signs so that you reduce your speed well in advance :)

driving tips. dont go more than 25 MPH over the speed limit or you can loose your liscence outright, and that really would ruin the holiday.

take your own loo roll the on the side of the road service stops dont normally have any ( and are mostly discusting sadly)

oh and tolls form calais to DLP are currently €19.20 or thereabouts, remember to keep €20 back for the end of the trip when you have to pay them all on the way home ;)

Good tip about keeping some euros back for the way home :)

Does it have to be the accurate amount or do they give change OK ?

Anyone know the postcode of the Cheyenne or what it would be listed as on a satnav or a route planner site - same again for the Eurotunnel ..... any ideas what it is listed as ? When I put in calais I get quite a few options :)

They give change as it not a machine but a booth, they also take cards for payment too.

Type in Disneyland Paris and when you get there the hotels are clearly signposted.

For the French Eurotunnel it should be Coquelles, but just head for Calais & it is signposted clearly.

We have always stopped at the service station literally half way & can't fault it. It is very clean & tidy.
