We're just NW of you in the Lehigh Valley. Fortunately, we have our choice of routes to take and different strategies to avoid DC. Agree with people who say to time your departure based on when you anticipate driving through DC...or in your case....driving on I95 through Philly, Baltimore, etc. Realize that sometimes, even with the best planning, you can get jammed on 95 just south of DC, whether due to construction, lane closures, or an accident. In June, you also may start having to deal with extra traffic traveling to the shore.
With multiple drivers, we've done the trip straight through, usually switching every 2-3 hours whether we feel we need to or not. I have done the drive straight through solo, but I left at 4am, had reservations in SC, felt great when we hit SC and cancelled and was able to make it straight through to Orlando. What might have helped with that decision was traffic was backed up on alternate route (81, 77?, 26, 95) and we made a long stop for food, gas, etc.
It's doable. It can be fun if you enjoy road trips. Even with unexpected weather or traffic conditions, I like having travel more in my control than with the airlines. Typical trip is about 16.5 hours total from here.
