I will be driving down in July. i have never drove there before. i will be taking I 75. I am looking for the best place to stay along the way. Right now i am looking at Acworth Georgia. By Google maps that is 14 hours 42 minutes from Hanover ontario where i live. I plan to leave around 3am so that would mean straight driving i would arrive in Acworth around 5:45pm, add around 2 hours for stops making it 7:45. That would leave me roughly 7 1/2 hours the next day to disneyworld. Does this seem about right to anyone who has made this drive before??

Also do you guys book hotels ahead of time or do you just wait until you get there?? i can see pro and cons with each way. If you book first you can be sure you get what you want. if you book when you get there you can then drive a little further or little less depending on how things are going. Also you can use the coupons you can get at the state visiter centers.

Thanks for the help.

Hanover Ontario.

If you look closely it is in my last post. LOL

Sorry about that.

I'm a big fan of the following route.

Nothing wrong with I-75 just make sure you don't hit Atlanta during rush hour.

I always book a hotel in advance. But lots of folks just wing it. If you're traveling at off peaks days and there isn't a big demand for rooms that night you can get some great discounts from the welcome centers in each state.

I am commited to the I 75 route. I have already purchased the "along I 75" book by Bave Hunter. I understand that this route is pretty much idiot proof. Which is good for me since i have never even been into the USA.

we are about an hour southwest of you, and have driven I75 the last 4 years. We leave at 4am, cross at Port Huron, and take 94/96 to Detroit to catch the I75. We usually stop at around 5pm, around Dalton or Calhoun, Georgia. Both have nice Country Inn and Suites (Calhoun is about $35 cheaper), and are about an hour from Atlanta. We have the free breakfast the next morning, and are at WDW shortly after lunch day 2. We pre-book our hotels, using the I75 book, and research the areas (for food and exit issues). We carry the hotel's number, and if we decide to drive further/less we can cancel and find another hotel. Last year, we cancelled our booking, and drove an extra hour, eventually getting a room at an Inn Dave recommended.
We like the I75, it has sooo many options for food, gas and lodging, and it is easy as can be (stay on I75 other than Macon, from detroit to Ocala, Fla). Words of advice,
1. avoid Detroit if possible, there is alot of construction at the entry to I75
2. use the HOV lane through Atlanta (we zipped through at 55 MPH)
3. the book is invaluable, if it says don't exit, don't leave the interstate

Enjoy your trip

DW, then GF, and I drove down I-75 in '88.

We left London, ON at 4:00 AM and arrived at Cartersville, GA, just north of Acworth, around 6:00 PM.

Detroit 6:00 AM
Cincinnati 12:00 PM
Chatanooga 4:00 PM
Then we were stuck for about an hour on I-75 due to an accident that slowed down traffic

I remember loving the drive from souther KY, TN & Norther, GA. Once you're south of Atlanta I found the drive very flat and boring.

Don't forget to stop for fresh orange juice at the Florida Welcome Centre on I-75.
